There are many other Lynch films that badly need a blu-ray release. This is such a waste as the current blu is fine.

Just curious what Criterion could do with FWWM? just seems like an odd choice. I'm one of the few who didn't care much for FWWM. Besides a different transfer could there be more bonus features? I would have thought that was taken care of with the Twin Peaks Box Set.

Would rather Criterion and Lynch do something special for Inland Empire.

I love FWWM but, the box set blu is already great.

I gave this a thumbs up cause I'm generally pretty sympathetic to this reaction to rereleases but with one qualifier: I'm not sure it's a huge waste.

Sure, they're going to devote some time and some resources to this but really, it can't be that much time or that many resources.

But there are so many other Lynch films that don't have blu-ray releases at all.

How would they even be able to work around the rights issues with this?!

This seems pretty lame, given that the "Entire Mystery" blu set (with the whole show, FWwM, and FWwM:The Missing Pieces) has been available for ~$50 several times over the past year, in anticipation of the Showtime show, and there will surely be an updated "Entire Mystery" set that includes all of the above and the Showtime series after the latter comes out... It's a little late to be releasing this as a standalone, and the Entire Mystery set is so packed with extras, I would be hard-pressed to think it would justify a repurchase for all but the most ardent of Lynch fans. I also can't image there's a large number of folks who want just FWwM and not the rest of Twin Peaks with it...

So if this is a means of getting the Lynch doc included as an extra, I'd rather them just release the doc with a bunch of miscellaneous Lynch shorts/features/etc.

But I'd really rather they released Lost Highway, or On the Air!

As everyone is pointing out, it is currently in the US as a part of a SET. This would be an individual release with the biggest incentive most likely being the new Lynch doc.

Also, what if...and I mean IF...all the missing pieces were put back in? The original vision with all the characters from the TV show, a full experience.

But still...I would much rather other films that have yet to get a solid US release.

Well, sure but I don't think a rerelease like this impacts other releases all that much. Most of the heavy lifting has already been done. They're not going to start from scratch. They'll commission a new supplement or three and a new cover and they're pretty much done, no?

Like I said, I get (and even share) the frustration but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it's that big a deal.

Do they really think folks want just FWwM, and not the rest of the show that contains the entire mythology you have to be familiar with for FWwM to make what little sense it does?

And also, it's not possible to buy just the show without FWwM anyway, and I would be very surprised if it would be possible in the future...

Also, IIRC, Lynch has said he intentionally decided not to re-edit the Missing Pieces into a "Director's Cut" of FWwM (just like he didn't re-edit Blue Velvet when they found the deleted scenes), so I would be veeeeeeeeeeeeeery surprised if they talked him into doing that.

The missing pieces are great, but they are best as their own thing. The movie is better focusing on Laura.

It's just to cash in on the new Twin Peaks buzz, appealing to the 'buy it for the spine number and cover' type of collectors in the process.

Wait. You guys are serious with this being Fire Walk with Me ? I honestly thought you were joking. Does not seem like a film criterion would put out honestly. I love it but really odd considering it's basically a companion to the show.

Very true regarding the Director's Cut hence my emphasis on IF. It would be cool to see though.

The film exists in its own format via DVD and as a Blu-ray in other markets, so it's not like it has never existed on its own before. I'm convinced if this clue is FWWM, the real selling point is the new documentary.

Throw us all for a loop and include Industrial Symphony No. 1 as a special feature.

I decided to pick up the Yojimbo / Sanjuro set solely because Priscilla Page has been posting Toshiro Mifune pics on her twitter account. Never seen any of his samurai movies made with Kurosawa, only High & Low.

I will end up buying it to own the doc but there are better options out there for them to pair it with (Lost Highway namely).

Well, I agree that there wouldn't be much of a point in Criterion releasing Fire Walk with Me, as there's not much they can do with the already great transfer, and I honestly would hate if they put together a so-called extended cut, with the Missing Pieces put back in, but I don't worry too much about that since I'm almost sure David Lynch would hate it too; so I guess this is just for the extras but then again aside from the documentary on David Lynch, what else could they add?

And yet I find it just great that Fire Walk with Me has reached the point where it can be appreciated on its own, and what better way to prove that than by being given validation by way of a Criterion release....

I don't see what they can add to it, which is why I don't think it's FWWM. I'll go with those who guessed The Burbs.

I received the big Twin Peaks Blu-ray set for Christmas, and still have not watched it yet.

A Criterion Collection release of Fire Walk with Me would be cool, but I'm hoping for something else, since the whole "releasing new Blu-ray editions of films that I already have in my still-unwatched Blu-ray stack" phenomenon makes it really difficult for me when it comes to stockpiling all of these purchases for when I have more free time after retirement or after an apocalyptic event.
