I'm not sure what you'll think of Dylan from Don't Look Back. He's kind of an arrogant prick throughout the thing. But if you end up liking him or his music, I'd definitely recommend Scorsese's great documentary No Direction Home, which chronicles his early years.

So since I popped my Criterion cherry over a year ago by buying my first Criterion title (which was "Rosemary's Baby"), are there any other definitive horror Blu-Ray releases from Criterion that I should look out for??

I know about "Carnival of Souls" but it's like $40 Canadian on Amazon.ca right now

No Direction Home is the way to go.

This weekend I watched 2 films I've heard pretty divisive reactions here.

Blow-Up I actually quite liked this, definitely the precursor of De Palma's Blow-Out but this is a much less traditional film as we all probably expect from Antonioni, perfect ending .

Jeanne Dielman as much I can understand and appreciate what the filmmaker was going for here, this is still not my cup of tea, I didn't hate it, but I don't think I could ever see it again since I don't think it could change my mind, the dialog parts were good too bad there were so few and far between.

Rosemary's Baby is definitely a masterpiece. All the paranoia and dread, beautiful. And I love the ending. Definitely get that Carnival of Souls when the price drops.

As for other horrors offered by Criterion check out Repulsion, it's another Polanski film. And while not scary, but a beautiful supernatural gothic tale from the 40's, check out The Uninvited. Cheers

Criterion is off to a great start this year with Blow-Up and Mildred Pierce.

There's the pre-code horror of The Island of Lost Souls.

I love Repulsion -- but then, I'm a huge fan of both Polanski and Deneuve. So ...

I'm thinking of picking up Belle de Jour. I've never seen it and It doesn't really sound like my kind of thing, but it sounds like some good sleaze to watch with the wife. What are your thoughts?

It's Buñuel, that's for sure! Deneuve gives a terrific performance in a very challenging role -- challenging, I believe, because even Buñuel wasn't sure what the film was about. It's sort of Lynchian in that way. It's beautiful and probably the least erotic erotic film ever made -- if that makes any sense?

I think it's brilliant even if I still don't understand it.

Bunuel's films definitely aren't sleazy. They're more surreal than anything. They're also funny in a very bizarre way. Many of his films mock the absurdity of social norms and the self-involvement of many people.

Yes, surrealism was his forte definitely and his commentary on bourgeois society is hilarious.

I watched my Criterion blu-ray of Chungking Express finally. It is apparently out of print if Amazon's prices are any indicator.

I enjoyed it more than I anticipated. I am glad I got around to watching it.

I don't know how long it has been OOP; I bought it in 2009, shelved it, and apparently forgot I had it. My sister asked me if I owned it, so I checked and there it was! Makes me wonder what other gems I have filed away and forgotten about?
