Yeah.... The Lure... I'm going to say We Are the Flesh:Arrow::The Lure:Criterion. I haven't seen WAtF, but I am as baffled by Criterion's selection of The Lure as folks seem to be by Arrow's selection of WAtF. I enjoyed the set-up, and up through the first, say, two songs is fun, but.... I thought the rest was terrible, non-sensical, and... well... more suited to Arrow Video than Criterion. (Which I don't mean derogatorily. Just, it's not my taste, it's not typical Criterion, and it has some ridiculous/violent/horror-ish elements that seem more in line with Arrow Video.)

My copy is for sale in the Criterion Trading Forum if you're interested. Good movie, I'm just not interested in watching it again. It is one of Bunuel's signature films.
Another you should check out is Exterminating Angel. I liked that one more.

I definitely want to see the Exterminating Angel. That definitely sound like my kind of thing.

I am interested in Belle De Jour but my cash is tied up right. When it frees up I'll look you up.

Interesting enough studiocanal just did a new 4K master for Bell De Jour.

Do you think it could top the Criterion?

Unless they mess it up with noise reduction or bad encode, definitely since their previous BDJ release is as good as the (much later) Criterion release, albeit with a different, colder color pallete (that IMO is more suitable for the tone of the film)

The rights to the talkies and silents are divvied up, and have been changing hands quite a bit since the 80s.

Unfortunately I could never see Criterion getting their hands on any of their material. I have to wonder how well their silent-era films sell, given we haven't had any Chaplin in over a year nor any additional Harold Lloyd films released.

For any region free Koreeda fans, this is sometimes hard to find, but appears to be both in stock and on sale:

I'm not sure how well other silents sell, but I'm sure the Chaplins and Lloyds are among their biggest sellers, especially the Chaplins.

We've got all but The Circus with Chaplin's 20s era silents.

Watched Tampopo last night. Not only is it a very good film but It's now easily one of the best Transfers I've seen this year on blu-ray. Several scenes blew me away.

Belle de Jour is too arty to be sleaze. Don't go into it looking for that. It's a very good film though.

The Lure is gorgeous. What a bizarre movie, though.

Who would think that someone would make a musical with vampire mermaids?

Well well well speak of the devil! There's just an announcement that Studio Canal is releasing a 50th anniversary edition to Belle de Jour. Brand new 4K restoration as well
