If you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands for... oh, let's say $5. It'll be used by then, after all. Free shipping?

I wonder if any of the content from 10th disc of the "Entire Mystery" set might be part of this release.
A crowd pleaser? No. I mean, I love it. I think it's a masterpiece. But there are many people who really disliked it. I was a bit baffled upon first viewing, in fact. But after seeing it more times and having time to think about it, I've come to really appreciate it.

I do understand why it's so divisive though.

But as others have pointed out, it already has a good release. I mean, I suppose it could have some great new extras added, but there's so much about the film all over the Internet.

Lynch already worked with CBS on the Twin Peaks box set, creating some extras and the whole "missing pieces" deleted scened. There's nothing else he would add to the set, since he's not interested in special features or commentaries anyway. Hopefully Criterion isn't double-dipping a release that's already perfectly fine in every department.

I liked it when I saw it in 1992, then after I realized how many flaws are in the film (some blatant continuity errors from very obvious things that happened in the show), I liked it less. Then after seeing it more recently after a number of years, I was struck as how ham-fisted Sheryl Lee was in it. She has 2 expressions: bedroom eyes, and quivering open-mouthed deer-in-the-headlights. Just so cheesy and over-acted. The series is great, but the film not so much. We'll see about the new Season 3.

No, I think that's nonsense about Lee's performance. Maybe it's just because of the nature of Laura's character (dualistic to the extreme), because she's unbelievable and reaches levels of intensity and complexity far beyond anything seen previously in the show.

Good point about the extras.

I completely disagree with you, however, concerning Sheryl Lee's performance.

Phew. Glad I got my copy while it was in print. However given the recent Godard screenings here in NYC I'm hoping/assuming upgrades may be on the way for some titles, but since PLF has been OOP for a while maybe they lost the rights completely.

I would pay 61 bucks if I were adamant about owning all Godard's first wave era flicks. Which I am.

EDIT: I really wish CC would make a separate line just for upgrades. I'm jonesin' for Haxan, and certain Godard & Bergman titles to get their upgrades.

Beware the version of Pierrot in that set is a different transfer. Supposedly the Criterion one was supervised by the DOP.

There are some massive differences (the Criterion has the green filter in the party scene whereas the Studio Canal does not)...

Excuse me, but I don't know the correct place to post this. Being that many of the people in this thread are classic film lovers, it seems appropriate to post here.

FWIW, I attended this festival for the 2nd year in a row this year. HIGHLY recommended! (And the article pretty much nails it).

Another option would have been to refuse the package unopened, return to sender. (Probably too late given your post is from well over a week ago.)

I don't order much from Amazon (US) anymore, but pre-orders with them I gave up even longer ago. Prices didn't drop or they dropped shortly after release, not worth it. (Among other things.)

But now that I have managed to accrue a good number of Amazon points, and a gift card too, the time for another Amazon adventure is getting near.

It was the 5th anniversary of Adam Yauch's passing away on May 4th. Do you think Criterion will ever release a blu-ray of The Beastie Boys Video Anthology , possibly updated - and would you buy it if they did?

Yes I would buy it, but I don't think an upgrade is on the horizon because I'm not sure how many of the vids were shot HD to begin with.

I would love an update to include all vids though, even if it was just a DVD.

I would put my money on Oscilloscope releasing something like that before Criterion re-releasing the set on blu-ray.

This set is just about to be reissued too, with Made aim USA and Le Petit Soldat included. It's currently only got a date for France, but given that it's studio canal I'm hopeful that it'll have English subs on the two new discs.

On a related Godardian note, I just got Anna Karina tattooed on my arm. It's still healing, so I haven't got a good pic, but this gives you an idea.

The consensus is that the green filter is wrong. I've seen it debated to death but contemporary reviews from the time of release suggest this to be the case. This doesn't clear up where the green filter comes from, but it seems unlikely to have been Godard himself.

Just wanted to give the heads-up that the recent documentary Mifune: The Last Samurai is now streaming on Netflix in the US. I had hopes that it would get a BD release here, but so far only DVD. The stream is in full HD. I'll probably check it out this weekend.

Quote:
This documentary explores the accidental movie career of Toshiro Mifune, one of the true giants of world cinema. Mifune made sixteen remarkable films with director Akira Kurosawa during the Golden Age of Japanese Cinema, including "Rashomon," "Seven Samurai" and "Yojimbo." Together they thrilled audiences and influenced filmmaking around the world, providing direct inspiration for not only "The Magnificent Seven" but also George Lucas' "Star Wars."

And if you're in the Bay Area, it's playing at the PFA with the director in person in July, as part of a series focused on Mifune (all Kurosawa films except the doc and Samurai Rebellion): http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/event...e-last-samurai
