Hoping it's this one. Queen of Earth didn't do much for me.

Just what Alex Ross Perry needs. To be deemed a "master of cinema" and put into the "criterion collection" in the span of a year.

I just pre-ordered The Lodger and Straw Dogs.

I've already pre-ordered Ghost World and They Live By Night, so there are some good Criterions coming my way soon.

I know that there is a Barnes & Noble sale coming up soon, but the brick-and-mortar B&N locations have become more wishy-washy when it comes to what Criterion Blu-rays they stock in their stores, and I usually reserve the sales for titles that I'm genuinely on the fence about (Woman of the Year, etc.). Ordering them from Amazon Prime costs a couple of bucks more, but I save a trip to the store.

Incidentally, I revisited Frankenstein (1931) last night, and am watching the extra features (again) to kickstart my viewing marathon of the Frankenstein: Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray set.

So...

When, when is Criterion going to upgrade The Spirit of the Beehive?

Yeah my B&M B&N's Criterion stock leaves much to be desired especially since I have to travel a little ways to get there or shop at the B&N located smack dab in the middle of what I like to call Hipster Hell.

At the B&N near me (I live in Denver), I'll go over there in my work clothes (slacks and a dress shirt) during lunch when Criterion sales are going on and there are always college-age hipsters over there. They always look at you like, "What could this guy know about Criterion? He doesn't look like a microbrew-obsessed, skinny jean-wearing, indie-band shirt-wearing guy." My buddy who works there and I laugh because these kids ALWAYS will buy Wes Anderson films. Last year, there were two hipsters in there and we bet 10 bucks on the over/under on how many Wes Anderson films they would buy between the two of them. Set the over/under at 4.5. I took the under. I lost.

Criterion released it on DVD, but per Criterion Forum, it was a pretty lackluster effort, altogether. And the Warner DVD splits the movie across two discs. Ugh.
Don't forget about Lena Olin. Who was also wonderful in the film.

Not that I know of. Been waiting since the introduction of the format for this one. The chemistry between Binoche and Daniel Day Lewis is intoxicating, as is Binoche at her peak. This is one of the many that just makes me shake my head when I regularly scan through the dreck in the 'latest news' release listings.

West Side Story? The 50th Anniversary Edition, which is really nice, is cheap on Amazon. Did it recently go out of print?

<3 The Saul Bass intro. I was so pleasantly surprised to see he also did the opening of North By Northwest.

It was delayed indefinitely several weeks ago. It was given the new release date a day or so ago.

I really hope that MifuneFan's prediction about Le Samourai is true. I think that they will include an American film noir or comedy in the mix, so Sixteen Candles is definitely possible.

I can't wait to not see The Virgin Spring announced tomorrow!

But, you know, here's hoping I guess.
