I think Criterion has said point blank that they passed on releasing Lambs on blu.

IIRC, that was stated several years ago. Things change.

Robocop definitely doesn't need a Criterion. The remastered MGM 4K release is stellar and will do me just fine.

None of those films really "need" a Criterion, as they all have solid BD presentations. But Criterion has shown an inclination lately to reacquire rights on titles that have been OOP.

So far it's a very intriguing set of releases, but I can't say I know enough about any of 'em to drool.

I need to see more
[Show spoiler]Curtiz
, so having more available to see is nice. I'd like to see
[Show spoiler]Leigh's first film, as I've liked his others movies, and of course Oldman's debut (but surely the Sid & Nancy Twitter teaser is just to tease for Oldman? Two Oldman films in the same-month?!)
. And I greatly enjoyed
[Show spoiler]Story of a Cheat
, and need to finish the rest
[Show spoiler]of the Guitry Eclipse set. Maybe I'll get started and watch Désiré tonight before a a friend comes over to watch Ashes of Time...

Here's hoping we get more upgrades to fill out the month's roster...

I'm thinking Lambs is still a possibility. It WILL get a 4K remaster, that's for sure. It's too big of a film not to. But, it could very well come from Arrow, Shout, even MGM themselves. Not having much to add to the extras shouldn't be an excuse considering what little they contributed to Dr. Strangelove.

Silence of the Lambs has definitely been licenced from MGM, and it's not with Kino, so the options are limited. Shout recently said it's not with them, which surely only leaves Criterion (I can't see Arrow being able to outbid Kino).

Peter Becker did, yes. That was about 4-5 years ago though, so something may have changed. To clarify, he told me personally it wasn't due to a new remaster, but to the lack of extras they would be able to provide. With physical media more limited and cutthroat nowadays, they may have reconsidered.

I think a sample size bottle of lotion or perhaps a small plush "Precious" would add value to the package.

Maybe Paul Verhoeven will want to do a Blu release of the film in his preferred aspect ratio.

Lambs being on Filmstruck under the Criterion label means that it's inevitable that they will release it on Blu. Maybe they're waiting to film a tribute to director Jonathan Demme (RIP) before announcing it.

I just never thought Lambs needed a rerelease. I find it's current transfer just fine and it's a drab looking film anyways. Nothing that really screams 4K remaster IMO. Let's get films that aren't out yet or films that terribly need a remaster on blu ray instead. That's just me though.

It already got a 4K restoration supervised by the DP, Tak Fujimoto.

As a Chaplin completist, I am wondering if there is any scuttlebutt about Criterion releasing The Circus. I believe it's the only UA feature of his that has not been released by them. Fingers crossed for a release in the coming months..

please don't try to drag me into a moral grandstanding discussion. it has been a while since I've seen it, too. I was disappointed that the story went south for the Fassbender character... his character was more fully developed, more interesting, and more likeable. that's all I'm saying.

I don't know what it says about a character's likeability if she thinks she can dance, but she can't. she didn't have my sympathies... and whatever angle through which Arnold tried to gain those viewer sympathies for her protagonist was lost on me.

It's only a matter of time. MK2 just renewed the rights on their Chaplin holdings.
