The Breaking Point, Hopscotch and possibly Meantime for me. I enjoyed Sid and Nancy when I saw it, but I don't know how much rewatch value it will have for me. Knowing it's about two real people who wasted their lives kind of kills the fun for me.

I haven't watched it in years (fine, decades, shut up) but I'm definitely in.

I'd jump on The Survivors too if it ever gets a decent release somewhere.

Same three for me. Very happy about the surprising Hopscotch upgrade especially.

How can so many people be disappointed in a month that includes Walter Matthau?!

My buddy has the "Hopscotch" DVD and I borrowed it a couple years ago. It looked really bad, but I thought it was terrific. It seems like a lot of people aren't interested because it's not really a glamour title, but I'm glad Criterion is upgrading it. I'd love to see "The Ruling Class", another overlooked title, get an upgrade soon as well.

We need The Bad News Bears (1976) to add to the list of Walter Matthau Criterion releases as well!

I'm glad for anyone getting what they want with this batch, but I can't stop pouting until 16 Candles is announced.

EDIT: I'm guessing Le Samouri fans feel the same.

I don't understand what point the film is trying to make about anything and in my opinion, it suffers from the fact that

I watched Fish Tank for the first time recently and agree with you about Fassbender. For what it's worth, I did like the movie a fair amount, and Fassbender is easily the most memorable part of it. Reprehensible in the end, sure, but he was a charismatic villain. The girl was fine, and I felt for her, but sometimes a really gross character can kinda dominate a movie. I don't think it's a stretch to say Fish Tank is an example of this.

The Bad News Bears, The Tenant and Addams Family Values might be my top three 'what the hell, Paramount, I'm not getting any younger' titles right now.

The Breaking Point looks interesting.

I found Hopscotch at a thrift store a while back for $3 and haven't watched it yet, need to get around to that.

Especially with Bad News Bears' 40th anniversary last year makes it even more "what the hell"

Its a great movie! Eddie Muller did a write up on it for Noir City a couple years back which was what got me to seek it out and it was definitely well worth it!
I highly recommend seeking it out, I certainly dont think you'll be disappointed.

I don't mean to poo-poo this month's announcements but it feels a little like they could all have been part of the Eclipse series instead (not counting upgrades).

I've not seen the Breaking Point either but it looks like I will come August. If your looking to get into noir check out these Criterion releases as well: In a Lonely Place, The Killing, and definately Kiss Me Deadly. There's many others to name. Check out the noir thread if your really interested. Mifunefan has a link to it in his signature. Cheers!

What if Sixteen Candles goes unannounced for 2017? The clue seems to be obvious but I'm not 100% convinced. July/Nov are traditionally reserved for high profile releases so we shall see.

Mine would be The Bad News Bears and Black Sunday.

I think it's going to be Loach's "Sweet Sixteen". I may be totally wrong, but I think a lot of people may be disappointed.
