Hey, I was wondering if someone could help me out? I was looking for the Criterion thread, and i thought I had saved the correct link, but it led here and no one seems to be talking about anything remotely related to Criterion.
It's too bad too, that was a good thread. |

The other great John Hughes teaser was the "Some Kind Of Wonderful" trailer where it's basically nothing but Watts (or a drummer dressed up like Watts) drumming. |

I actually hope that either Sixteen Candles gets released soon or that mja's theory is correct. (actually pulling for the latter.) one mention always seems to lead to discussions about everything 6 degrees separated from Molly Ringwald. |

Very few (if any) biopics are actually that faithful to the real story. Movies have to pick, choose, condense, and create drama to make the story flow in under 2 hours, and tell the best story possible, not the most accurate one.

It's obviously told from one point of view, but it's pretty convincing and solid. There's one moment in Sid & Nancy that I seem to remember and love, even if it is probably a dramatization moment. As Sid is playing one of his less-than-spectacular solo shows at a dive, Johnny Rotten is watching from a distance with tears in his eyes. |

Yeah I just felt the film had so much more potential for it's concept and to be edgier as well. It belonged to a different director and writer IMHO. I'm also not a Matthew Broderick fan either so that didn't help.

Ferris Bueller's agenda during the day, for the most part, is to help his friend, Cameron, and he accomplishes this in style. He's a bratty teen in so many ways, but his heart is ultimately in the right place. There is a lot about this movie that inspires eye-rolling, of course, and I've always theorized that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one reason why many poverty-stricken and malnourished third world terrorist types really hate Americans. Still, it's one of the happiest movies ever made, and I love it dearly. Besides, one could probably make the same accusation about Michelangelo Antonioni's "alienation trilogy", where we are expected to empathize with immaculate-looking bored socialites who all won the genetic lottery (Somehow, I always do empathize with them.). I've never had a tragic life situation that was not at least partially alleviated by watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Better Off Dead, and Real Genius all in a row. (...and yes. It does chap my tail that Real Genius is being released on a BD-R by Sony.) |

John Hughes was a hack. His films were bad, his characters were worse.
And I agree with everyone else. What the hell is happening to this thread? |

I really do think you'll survive the discussions. You can always start a new one. Plenty of threads do it and have multiple discussions going on at the same time for whoever wants to participate in said discussions.

My dad would be so proud to see all these people talking about Hughes films.
Speaking of, I want Sixteen Candles to be released before the year ends so I can get two copies: one for me and one for dad. Yeah he has the regular Blu but what Hughes fan WOULDN'T want to see a 4K restoration? Some people may not like the idea of Criterion releasing teen comedies, but I'm okay with it. Criterion releasing Hughes or Heckerling tickles my fancy. I almost thought of the idea of them releasing Heathers, but most of the New World Pictures movies are being released by Arrow. |
