Despite the Hughes fever.
Be assured, Our hearts and restless souls ache equally for more Godard, Fellini and the greats of cinema. Change of topic.. So what did you guys have for breakfast? I had some porridge along with a glass of protein shake. |

I don't get it. John Hughes is rumored to be joining the Criteiron collection which led to people discussing Hughes films. What's the problem? Doesn't seem like there's much else to talk about anyway, especially considering how lackluster that last batch of announcements was.
Ive seen conversations here about "artsy" directors who aren't in the collection yet, this should be no different. And whenever someone dares mention the name "Quentin Tarantino" this thread is quick to have fun bashing him for 5 pages straight. At least this is better than that. |

Yeah but I think it's region B locked and might possibly be the existing Criterion master. Or is it a new one entirely? |

Talking about Antonioni, the first time i watched Red Desert I immediately loved it. When I watched L' Avventura I found it to be very challenging, as many others have. But when it was over I couldn't help but to keep thinking about it, and wanting more. And I was blown away by the ending. I look forward to checking out his other works |

![]() https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=21258 It would probably be B locked... but it's about time you get a region free player!! Also La Strada is out on Blu-ray next month in UK... so even more reasons to set yourself free and join the RF club! |

Wasn't there supposed to be a new Third Man blu ray as well with a new 4K remaster and if so is that region locked as well? Last edited by MassiveMovieBuff; 05-18-2017 at 12:32 AM. |

I haven't seen FB in a while but I don't remember him being especially worse than other film characters, other than he was a teenager. He's a bit manipulative and smug, but what I see as most contentious with viewers today is that he's a winner. And in those heady days of the 80s, bending a few rules to "win" was not frowned upon. One could argue that mentality still persists today. Anyway, I think John Hughes made a bunch of entertaining films for a specific generation of youth. I'd say The Breakfast Club is probably the only one that could be considered a "Gen X cultural touchstone" though. Not to say that I think it's the greatest movie as it traffics in various shallow (if nonetheless truthful) stereotypes but I don't see it as being much different than how The Big Chill was for baby boomers. Totally, it looks fantastic! Although keep in mind it's from a 2K restoration.
While not all 4K remasters translate into dramatic improvements on Blu-ray... However, since SC are showcasing it at Cannes right now - they must've gone all out to create a truly immaculate presentation. Quote:
Although that rarely ever happens with SC titles these days. |

Neat. And Something Wild (1961) finally arrived in the mail for me. I can't wait to pop it in to the player--I'm a big fan of the New York independent film scene of the late 60s and through the 70s. This film was arguably one of the precursers to that movement.

I'm gonna hold out I think to see if Belle De Jour's new 4K release gets a Region A release. It also doesn't say it's Region B locked yet it just says A and C are untested so it could still be good for Region A. |

Cool I'm going to have to check out Something Wild. I have Demme's version. Are there any similarities or is it just the title?
