P&P- Life and Death of Col. Blimp (it's inevitable for BR)
Fellini- Amacord (Would love Nights of Cabiria though ).
Ozu- Tokyo Story (Ozu is due for blu in CC)

If/when Rashomon and Tokyo Story get released, those are two first day buys for me. Two of my favorite all-time movies.

I agree. Ebert is one of my favorites to read because of his writing style and his ability to really explain his opinion on a film. I don't bother reading most movie reviews because I feel most critics don't know how to actually explain their views on a film, and they spend way too much time talking about the plot as oppose to what they thought about the finished product.

A.O. Scott at the NY Times is another of my favorites to read. His writing style is fantastic and generally fun. I also enjoyed Nathan Lee as a writer, though I haven't read anything by him in forever. Basically since he stopped writing for the Voice (is he back? I don't know.)

When it comes to film criticism, I enjoy reading Ebert's reviews as well as the older Sarris, Kael, Rosenbaum, Agee, Truffaut... I also miss the old Village Voice.

The things from my list I most want is:

Godard - WEEKEND (seen it twice, but have been wanting to own it. Don't know if you all know this, but I like Godard.)
Malle - BLACK MOON (never seen it, but Malle is awesome and looking at the cast I see Warhol's/Morrissey's own Joe Dallesandro, so sould be fun.)

Bunuel - TRISTANA (Criterion needs more Bunuel now, and the best way to do that is a new movie in blu-ray.)

These should all be blu-rays. Imagine once CC starts to regularly release non-flagship titles on blu-ray

Don't get me wrong I love Seven Samurai, Red Shoes, 8 1/2, etc but it's also nice to get titles like Repulsion, Marienbad, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (which I REALLY want to see), etc. on blu-ray.

Yes, like I said a couple days ago, while this year was awesome, I love 2009's releases better, because they were harder to find in the U.S. titles. Re-releases and big titles like Night of the Hunter and Paths of Glory flooded this year's releases (which is great still), only with some great dvd only movies (Dillinger, silents, War Trilogy) that was hard to get before.

Can't wait for next year. Looks to be a great one.

Other studios need to get on the ball and release My Fair Lady (70mm), Roman Holiday, Two for the Road (Criterion?), Breakfast at Tiffany's (50th Anniversary in 2011), etc.

I watched the first 15 mins of so of Charade on Blu last nite, and the very start opening shot has always looked really dark and dreary but I was shocked how great this really does look in HD. It isn't free of specks and flecks and their is occasional instances where some frames of film looks washed out but hey it won't get any better.

Grain structure looks amazing, and Charade really does have the look of a classic film projected :-)
