I appreciate the booklets Criterion puts in thier releases. I like to form my own opinions and let the film means what it means to me, but the essays are very informative and can broaden my mind on the film and help me see something I didn't see. I won't let the lack of extras keep me from purchasing a title I want to have in my collection, but they're much appreciated when they're there.

I'm not kidding myself. I flat out disagree with this statement.

You must have an awful memory if you're forgetting 99% of things you watch and learn. Yikes.

I love being able to learn about things that I love, or things that I appreciate. Whether it's a movie, a piece of literature, a tv show, a painting, or even architecture. I am heavily intrigued on the whys and how's. Throw in some fun stories that occurred while making said thing and I'm even more intrigued!

Documentaries exist to give us more insight into something we are aware of or something we've never even heard of. But I guess if it's a special feature and not a feature film in its own right then it doesn't count in some eyes? That's a genuine curiosity of mine. Not meant to antagonize anyone.

Plus not every film is made the same way. Watching the Coen Bros and Sonnenfeld talk about Blood Simple (in a way that I wish more films would do!) really made me appreciate the film even more.

The commentary tracks on Antonioni's L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Eclisse, and Red Desert were hugely beneficial to me. Hugely beneficial.

Unrelated, but...

After all of this time that i've been fantasizing about a Criterion Blu-ray of Ghost World, my copy arrived in the mail today, and I cannot watch it, because I just started my Twin Peaks box set last night.

Agreed, I bought the Criterion DVD last year and while it looked great IMO, a BluRay upgrade would be welcome. Conrad Veidt gives his best performance outside of Caligari in this.

The commentaries by Cronenberg & co on Dead Ringers & Videodrome are amazing. But my all-time fave commentaries will be John Carpenter & Kurt Russell as well as Bruce Campbell in character on Bubba Ho-Tep

Anyone know when the B&N 40% off sale starts? Or does anyone remember when it started last year?

Do you think I Claudius deserves/will ever get the Criterion treatment? I have the DVD boxset.

Has some magnificent names- Sir Derek Jacobi & Patrick Stewart, Brian Blessed, John Hurt, Sian Phillips (who would later team up again with Stewart in Dune) over 11 hours long

Oh, it's not that. It's just that I get a far more in-depth learning from books and essays, my preferred method of study.

So far, Criterion has released two movies from their AMERICA LOST AND FOUND: THE BBS STORY Blu-ray set as individual releases, and those were EASY RIDER and FIVE EASY PIECES. This is the one I would love for them to release as an individual release (but keep in mind, I have not seen it, so please don't spoil it for me!):

I think it will more likely be "A Safe Place" unboxed and subsequently being put into a Henry Jaglom box set with classics like "Eating" and "Babyfever" with additional commentaries and interviews with Jaglom.

I think there's more of a demand for Head.

I guess I should have mentioned to you all that THE LAST PICTURE SHOW was named as one of the American Film Institute's Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time when the list was revised in 2007.

Yeah, it's been out in the UK for 2 years, surprised it hasn't been upgraded yet. But there's around 15 to more titles out in Region B that Criterion hasn't bothered to upgrade for whatever reason.

Ray, according to the tales you've told about how you put yourself through college, a man who's given so much Head to the world should also receive an equal amount of Head.

We're just joking around. There's a running joke about "A Safe Place" in this thread.
