I'm going to quote this again Pro-B. Anyone who has seen this (including Pro-B) give it a high recommendation (the movie and dvd)?

The only Alain Cavalier film I have seen is La Chamade, which is on MGM HD.

I still have my region B import sitting in my very short stack of watch real soon. Recall this review on dvdtalk, and maybe something at dvdbeaver when the zeitgeist version was recently released.

Thanks for that review. I tried dvdbeaver but it didn't have the U.S. dvd review. The screengrabs of the dvdtalk review looks great. Thanks again.

It's okay. Michel Piccoli is always awesome (Contempt, Dillinger is Dead, Bunuel films, etc), also if your a fan of Catherine Deneuve.

I read that Janus Films will be releasing the Japanese horror film Kuroneko in L.A. on November 19th. The person who designed the poster/cover art for House is currently working on the poster/cover art for Kuroneko. Criterion will likely release this on Blu-ray/DVD sometime next year. Kuroneko (Black Cat) was directed by Kaneto Shindô (Onibaba) and was released on DVD by Eureka Entertainment in the U.K. in 2005.

Hehe... you can see even more via Google Images but suffice to say, many of Tinto's films really show off his fetish for the female a$$.

Has anyone purchased many titles from Zeitgeist Films? I only have "Nowhere in Africa" but they have a pretty interesting catalog of films.

I own it, but haven't watched it yet. But the packaging is very nice, and quite similar to Criterion's releases. It contains a pamphlet with a well-written essay, and comes in a clear case, just like the Criterion discs.

Bottle Rocket (Criterion)

What a nice pretty little film. Doesn't make you laugh too hard but still keeps you evolved with the flick. The Owen brothers are pretty good in this movie about dorky rich robbers. The movie really has allot to offer, comedy (really dont know how to describe it. I dont know if its dry or stupid humor or a mixture ) i did enjoy it though.

I think the thing that stands out the most about this film is Wes Anderson's ability to direct. This is the second film i've seen that he's directed and i can say he seems pretty solid. Overall nice well done little film that makes you chuckle here and there.

Recommended

3.5/5

I know some love this movie but i thought it was good but not a 5/5

Excellent News! Can not wait to see how the poster comes out, might have to pick it up to hang next to my House Poster...

at the Brass quote. Have you seen some of his films kndy?

But those Zeitgeist films have me very interested.

Here are the ones I'm interested in (if anyone can give any opinions on them if you seen them, thanks.):

Le Combat dans l'île (already getting it)

Chantal Akerman's Tomorrow We Move & La Captive

Abbas Kiarostami's Ten (surprisingly, I have never seen it)

Hey, guys - recently got laid off of work, and I'm probably going to be forced to sell my beloved Kurosawa box. How much do you think I should be able to get for it? I'm hoping at least $150, in order to pay a bill, since the box and all the movies are pretty much in perfect shape.

I have several of the documentary films. The Corporation is outstanding. I wish all DVDs and BRs were as well put together.

I own practically everything that has been put on SDVD with Romy. This is a great film that captures the complex political climate in Europe at the time while it essentially tells a lovely story about impossible love. So from me -

Tinto Brass -- in America his name and reputation are irreversibly tarnished/damaged because of Caligula. Fact of the matter is, while many of his late films are quite explicit, he is most definitely not your stereotypical pornographer (whatever the current definition for pornographer is). His early films - such as Action, for instance, as well as the one I linked to you in another post - have absolutely nothing to do with erotica/pornography. Additionally, Mr. Brass influenced greatly Lina Wertmuller and Liliana Cavani.

Anyhow, things have not really changed. Take a look at how Jean-Claude Brisseau is treated by American critics.

Pro-B

p.s. Zeitgeist -- many of their early DVD releases are PAL to NTSC ports.

Thanks very much Pro-B. Icing on the cake for me. I found that Louis Malle produced the film as a criticism of Godard and other New Wave directors and their support for the French occupation of Algeria and for the OAS and their campaign of terrorism and assassination in mainland France. So just a question, did Cavalier direct this fully or do you see Malle's view on my last sentence in this film? I like Malle's films alot, and don't care if this is a "bashing" so to say on Godard and others, just curious about the situation and wondered if it had an effect on Cavalier's film.

+1

The Corporation is one of my favorite documentaries of all-time. I really hope it comes to Blu-Ray some day. The film is more relevant today than ever before.

Godard supported the occupation/terror campaign in Algeria?! I thought Godard was a staunch leftist/socialist. Or was he not always one?
