Anna Karina turns 70 on Wednesday, September 22nd.

Thanks to Criterion and blu-ray we get to see just how impossibly beautiful she is on screen. One of the most radiant actresses ever.

Happy Birthday Anna Karina!

That's probably about right..... I can't find a used set for sale, but it looks like $225 to $325 is the going rate for the set new, so $150 would be more than fair I'd think.....

Well, quite the early, yet unfortunate, review for "The Darjeeling Limited" from pro-b.

I'm hoping pro-b just received a defective screener disc. I'll have to check my Fox DVD when I get home. Or, maybe one of the "slackers" that isn't at work today and has the Fox DVD could pop it in to check.

Kind of ironic that a Wes disc would have problems...

Pro-B.....

How frequent are the blue lines in Darjeeling??????? (on the copy you received?)

I would like a "worst case scenario" if this is indeed true to the transfer........ What would your PQ score be "as is" ? ?

Crossing my fingers for Darjeeling.

In the mean time, I wanted to recommend a supplement that may have been passed up by some folks. The 72 minute interview with John Ford on the "Stagecoach" disc is really quite wonderful in it's rough form.

Ford of course was notoriously cranky and by '68 was a bit hard of hearing which would make a difficult interview for an experienced journalist. Unfortunately the young BBC interviewer was not up to the task. The footage is raw and includes the crew struggling with technical issues while the interviewer recites a list of entry level questions which Ford endures with barely controlled contempt.

It's worth a watch, especially for the moment Ford is asked if he believes the exploitation of the "Redskins" is a blot on American history.

They look exactly like lens flare, and someone has said they're on the DVD as well. I really wouldn't worry...

That's kind of what I figured. Was going to check my DVD, but it's buried somewhere, who knows where, so glad someone got around to doing so.

I've got the timing down...in my area at least. I get films every Wednesday and Saturday. If I mail the film back Wednesday night...I get the next one Saturday morning. With the Saturday film, I have until Sunday night to get it in the mail.

It's saved me loads on buying films...especially CCs.
I live in Toronto, and use Zip.ca, a Canadian rough equivalent to Netflix.

They don't provide straming (which doesn't matter to me), but mail you DVDs and Blu-rays in the mail. Generally, I'm pretty satisfied, although it seems to me that too often I get movies well down my list. They've told me it's all based on supply and demand.

Right now, for C$24.95 per month, I get three films films out at a time, for an unlimited number. Realistically, I get to see at least 12 films in a month, so I think that's pretty good. For some, but not all, of their movies, you can specially request immediate rental, with the charge of $3, $4, or $5 (this last price is what I get dinged when I request a new Criterion BD).

Not to derail the thread but I have some advice on Zip (I used to be a member) Every time they start giving you stuff way down your list call them and get a person on the phone. They promise a high percentage from the top of your list so if you're not getting that complain (politely). I called them a bunch of times and they always sent me free movies from the top of my list.

UPDATE:

I was contacted by a number of different people regarding my description of the blue stripes. I would like to specifically thank mfunk9786. The Darjeeling Limited is one of a few Criterion films that I did not already have on SDVD in my library so I could not compare it to a second source. This said, I also contacted Criterion's team long before mfunk9786 and other readers contacted me - as I wanted to make sure that there are no unfounded speculations, accusations, etc. So, I still expect to hear from Criterion, but at this point as far as I am concerned Criterion's presentation of The Darjeeling Limited is technically flawless. Below is the updated text I left in our review

Thank you.

(Update: I have been informed by a couple of different readers that what you see in screencapture #19 is also present on the old 20th Century Fox SDVD release of The Darjeeling Limited. Apparently, the blue stripes are a product of awkward light reflection of some sort caught the wrong way by the lens. Hence, there is no mastering defect with this Blu-ray disc. I contacted Criterion before these comments were sent to me, so I still expect to hear from them).

Pro-B

Because it is prob filmed that way with the lens hitting a light. Also this is the same guy who directs something across a computer, so I don't take the "director approved" sticker too serious.
