OK, so here's a question:

If you had the same opportunity as the vlogger, what would YOU take?

I think I'd go for the Zatochi & Del Toro box sets (maybe Before trilogy)
The Third Man - if possible
Upgrade my F&LiLV, Rushmore, & Brazil (would be my final choices)
Seven Samurai
Eraserhead
Buena Vista Social club

Looks like that was all old footage from some other source and I think the films were Multiple Maniacs, some of the Lone Wolf and Cub movies and Mildred Pierce (?).

In my experience, people who enjoy "Crumb" have really dark, twisted senses of humor (even though there are certainly sad elements to the film). People who put more limits on what they find funny, or who are simply uncomfortable with dysfunction and misanthropy, will probably find the film off-putting. Crumb is one of the more misanthropic, brutally candid subjects to ever be put on film. There is nothing he won't talk about in an honest way. And, as you mentioned, his brothers, particularly Charles, make him look like Mr. Rogers. It's an absolutely brilliant documentary and the commentary with Terry Zwigoff and Roger Ebert is one of the best on any disc out there.

I haven't seen it either. Got it on DVD but just never got around to watching it even though I've had it for years. I actually pulled it out about two weeks ago but then had a surprise gig & one I totally forgot about

I love 3 thimgs in life: music, comics & film & what with the realease of Ghost World, they will make great companion pieces plus it was less than £13

I spent $230 and change on the Scream Factory sale.

My participation in the Criterion sale will not be as impressive, since I've got so many still-unwatched Criterion titles around as it is, and I tend to get my favorites on day one anyway (They Live By Night, Ghost World, etc.).

I do plan to buy Stalker, Code Unknown, L'Argent, Woman of the Year, and a couple of others, though.

My participation in the B&N sale is likely to be much reduced on previous ones due to two things: the awful state of Sterling, and Criterion UK! Any title that is likely to come out in the UK is simply not worth buying in the sale because I can get it for a pound less when it comes out in the UK, or even less if I wait for a sale (like £12!). So I have to guess or gamble on what to go for. I've love to get Blow up and Ghost World this time around but rumour has it we may see UK releases.

Likeliest no-shows for the UK are probably World Cinema Project 1 & 2, so I might go for one or both of those.

Ah, but I will miss the excitement of the B&N sale starting and hunting for coupons...

I haven't participated in the B&N sale in years.

I'm interested in less and less films each year and, as a result, choose to pick the films up on release date instead.

So far I've purchased The Before Trilogy, Being There, and Ghost World. I'll more than likely pick up Rebecca. I watched it years ago and liked it but didn't love it. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it more on rewatch (I also plan to pick up the novel and read that for the first time).

I'm glad I didn't buy the MGM Hitchcock boxset and now I can add Rebecca to my CC. Do you think Spellbound and Notorious will also be released in the collection?

If Criterion wants to "wow" us by releasing a pointless stand-alone of "Fire Walk With Me," hopefully they can include his "Hotel Room" episodes, or even all 6 episodes of "On The Air." Now that would make it a special edition.

You seem really upset that they're releasing this. I don't want to minimize your feelings, as I'm just trying to understand, but couldn't you just not buy it?

Looking ahead to the last 3 months of 2017. Here's what CC has left. Some guesswork:

October
The Complete Monterey Pop Festival
The Lure
The Silence of the Lambs
The Tree of Life

November

Dragon Inn
The Circus
Grand Budapest Hotel

December
The Other Side of Hope
Desert Hearts
Sweet Sixteen
Twin Peaks: FWWM

Good guesses, even though some of them are pipe dreams for now.

I'd say we could see another Wenders film, too.

-The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick
-The State of Things
-Notebook on Cities and Clothes
-Until the End of the World

Of course, we also haven't factored in upgrades (I expect Fellini and Bergman) and any potential 1930s/1940s films from labels like Warner and Sony.

Possibly another Wenders box. Film's like "Goalie" wouldn't sell much on their own.

La Strada, Nights of Cabiria and The Virgin Spring would be great.

I just thought of something funny regarding the Criterion closet.

Wouldn't it be ironic or funny if someone "came out of the closet" while they were in the Criterion closet? That hasn't happened yet I bet. Ha!

If this is reality, my wallet will get hit hard during October-November stretch.

Good guesses. I'd bet that we'll be getting Night of the Living Dead by the end of this year (an October release would make most sense). I'm also still holding out hope for Election, The Last Picture Show, and California Split.
