Just gave that another watch a week or so ago. If you love it as much as I do it will be worth every penny and then some. Fantastic movie. Can't say enough good things about it.

Ordered They Live By Night and Tampopo last week. Thinking about Woman of the Year with Bad Day at Black Rock (for free shipping, and it's great) this week. Wonder what is encouraging the recent Amazon Criterion deals. Not enough titles to offset B&N sale, but still curious.

Jeanne Dielman for $20.59 on Amazon. Had to jump on that. Such a great film.

Edit: oh, crap. The Lodger is available today. Definitely grabbing that during the B&N sale. My inner Hitchcock is buzzing with anticipation.

Watched Vivre sa vie, and loved it. If that's indicative of Godard's other films, I can tell I'm really going to like him.

And Miss Karina is a vision, and inimitably talented. How have I not "discovered her" until now??? I definitely need to check out some of her other films. Suggestions on what to watch next, guys?

At the end of the movie, I wanted to go bust some heads. Then, I remembered....it's not real.

I remember the first time I discovered Ms. Karina.

It's not indicative of Godard's other films, although I think the smartest following move for his output at the moment is to watch his other Karina collaborations. They compliment one another well and are, I think, both at their creative peak. In particular, I urge you to watch Pierrot Le Fou, as it plays more like a greatest hits of Godard and will give you more of a taste of what he was like before and after.

I saw it in the cinema this week and it didn't look too bad, so maybe it is just SC's encode that is poor? There was just one amazingly bad sequence (when they walk towards the house at that wedding feast when invited in for something to eat), which was very different from the surrounding scenes, very soft and washed out - which suggests a problem with the source elements.

What a great film though - Massina just commands the screen.
[Show spoiler]And that final scene - wow!

As others have said, this isn't really indicative of Godard's work as a whole, but there are plenty of other films within his body of work like this. I'd pick up some of his 60s work for now if I were you, things like Breathless, Band Of Outsiders and Alphaville. Pierrot Le Found is Godard and Karina's masterpiece, though the Criterion is OOP.

On a related note I recently had a Karina tattoo!

The Warner deal ended so Paramount will probably re-issue it in the future.

It's been a while since I last saw the film. The only times I've seen it has been on the big screen. I'm anxious to revisit it.

The Amazon deals are getting ridiculous. If I didn't have about $200 in B&N gift cards to use next month I would pre-buy everything around the $22-24 range.

WCP II is 52% off this morning @ $59.66.

Yep I think I'm ordering this sucker right now.

Woke up to $300 points on my discover card, forgetting it was the one year match thing. Of course now I have 4k in debt but hey...whatever.

Hello everyone, this is going to be my first time dipping into the B&N Criterion sale. Am actually looking at quite a few titles to get, curious what you would all recommend. Here is what I am looking at:

Seven Samurai
The Lady Vanishes
The Seventh Seal
The 39 Steps
Sullivan's Travels
The Killers
The Phantom Carriage
Ace in the Hole
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Sweet Smell of Success
The Great Dictator
Kiss Me Deadly
Monsieur Verdoux
Safety Last!
Foreign Correspondent
The Uninvited
Blood Simple
Lone Wolf and Cub

Long list I know, but those are what I am looking at to add to my ever growing collection. Just curious what you would all recommend, or if there are some I may have missed. Thanks

Thankfully the B&N by me here in Michigan is loaded with Criterion Collection titles. The Seventh Seal is the one I am most curious about. Is Seven Samurai worth a purchase? That one gets brought up alot.

I've never seen Seven Samurai. Sorry. Definately get The Seventh Seal though whatever you get.
