Thanks for sharing the link. It looks incredible.

We definitely need more classic black-n-white films on blu-ray. I'm excited for Maltese Falcon and Treasure of the Sierra Madre in a few weeks and can't imagine how a Nykvist b/w film (Persona, Virgin Spring, etc) would look on blu-ray

Well, it's now technically no longer available from Criterion's site. It's been OOP for a while now, but still available directly from Criterion. No longer.

Well...you can still order it directly from Amazon, as well as The Man Who Fell To Earth.

The only OOP title that is really GONE is The Third Man. Used copies on Amazon going for $69.99 and new copies even more.

I guess I should have said it was out of print on Criterion. Still available through others. You just never know once Criterion's store runs out how long other sites will have copies.

Well that was fast....ordered my copy of the gentleman tramp yesterday and it arrived today....it contains both the theatrical version and the television version on a single disk. There is no numbering saying which number out of 800 you get though :[

It's a fun watch, too, for people who're not sure whether or not to pick it up in these final days. (:

From the booklet that came with it

Theatrical Version: The only version of the film previously distributed.

Television Version: A version with two sections of on-camera narration and a different main title sequence

What are you referring to? Which cases? Whose cases? This will help me answer your question.

I think he's asking if these Criterion case's are blu or dvd sized, 14mm (UK) or 11mm (US) case's.

DVDBeaver has a review up of 'The Magician'. Looking good. Extras all in HD as well.

Criterion may be the only studio that releases all the extras in HD. Most studios include them in 480. The Lord of the Rings blu-ray set has 3 blu-rays and 6 or 7 DVD's for the extras.

Thankfully Criterion doesn't do this absurd practice.

At least you can still get Pierrot Le Fou without it being $70. Who knows maybe one day I'll see Criterion's The Third Man at the store for $30.

The Man Who Fell to Earth is also OOP, but still available.

The BFI do this as well, that's why they have so many BD/DVD combos, as they don't want to put PAL format content on a Blu-ray Disc and wind up with playback issues for EU BD players--apparently some players have issues when both video formats are on the same disc .

Hmm... this may explain why the extras on the Amelie import don't play on my PS3...
