The membership will give you an extra 10% off in-store, or free shipping on on-line orders. You'll be lucky to get a single useful coupon out of it, so I wouldn't count on much there. So if you're not going to spend more than $250 at Barnes and Noble over the next year, it's probably not worth it, unless you anticipate a lot of small on-line orders which wouldn't ordinarily have free shipping. If you buy 13 Criterion titles in-store over the next year, the membership will have paid for itself.

If you are going to do it, wait until later in the month, that way you are more likely to be able to use the discount across three Criterion sales [this July, November or December, and then next July's]. My opinion is, if you can set aside the money to fully exploit the sales, it's worth the membership, but I wouldn't do a second year. It's not that I have everything I want, but I've hit a place where I won't be buying as many at one time for a while.

Yeah, it is. I don't have Prime, though, and I didn't want to spend more money to pad the order. for the free shipping. Anyways, with the coupon code I used the difference is so small that I don't really care.

Well, I'm not going to buy from B&N until the end of the month, when I'll grab five or six films. But I did snag Safety Last! It didn't feel right only having one Harold Lloyd film in my collection.

I got a free trial. Still don't understand how you can get a trial if you are in another country?

You might have missed my point... along with everyone else who agreed with you.

And that is, what happens when someone like me who said those exact words you wrote now has become disillusioned and no longer has as much interest in buying and owning blu-rays?

What does a person do then to become re-inspired to impress himself?

Should I feel ashamed that I no longer have any interest in collecting films in order to fill a void in my life to somehow make me happy?

If I no longer enjoy buying and owning as many blu-rays as I used to, am I supposed to stop complaining of my first world problem?

I never believed in buying digital films, because frankly, I think its too convenient and there is a risk of data loss.

Then again, if I had to move around a lot, taking 5 bins of blu-rays with me would be difficult if I suddenly chose a minimalist lifestyle and having all the movies in digital format would be much more possible.

But I guess I shouldn't dare utter any blasphemy regarding "going digital", because after all, its total blasphemy.

you should just bite the bullet and sell them off, j-dubs... with north of 500 titles and half of those Criterion, you could easily add 5K to your retirement account, if not more.

I don't think you meant it in a completely literal sense, but if your collection was something you amassed to "impress yourself," then you may have bought Blu-rays for the wrong reason. ...and if you've realized that now, then just let go. it sounds like you've been leaning that way for a while now.

it isn't my 'collection' that impresses me or inspires me, it is the content contained on the discs themselves. I hope to share a lot of these films w/ my son when he gets older and I have a heck of a lot of fun sharing films I love w/ my wife... umm.. most of the time.

I'm sale planning, and on the fence about Bresson's L'argent--while I will pick it up eventually, it might not make my list this time around.

I like Bresson and French cinema, especially of that era, so it seems like a pretty safe bet in terms of enjoyment; if anyone has a strong argument for grabbing it now rather than later on, I'd enjoy reading it.

True.... I could just sell them all, but since I'm still collecting them, it wouldn't make sense YET. But the bigger dilemma is, if I do sell them, who and where will buy them all as a lot? I'd want to sell them all at once, including my rare out of print titles (like The Third Man or The Man Who Fell to Earth).

I think I have a theory why I am not buying as much anymore. It's simply because I ran out of space in my blu ray cabinet! It's a psychological effect where you want to fill up that empty space with content, and now that everything has been filled, just like my stomach is filled from a large meal, the interest fizzles away. It's quite funny, isn't it?
