While everyone here is talking about buying, I'm the black sheep talking about selling. Lol......

I personally would've thought that themed lots would make sense (like "here's every Wes Anderson Criterion"), but the more I have looked, the more I believe it's the opposite, split those up across different lots so that you can attract people who don't like Wes Anderson too.
Great idea. I prob. will not sell more than 75% of my collection right now. I want to eventually narrow down my titles to only movies that affect me deeply and emotionally. A lot of classic films do not resonate personally with me, and most of these classic films are older films from the 1920s to the 1950s. Perhaps its a generational conflict, but aside from newer films, I tend to like movies and music I grew up with (as I grew up in the 80s and 90s). Anyway, I went on a tangent there. I'll prob. sell the titles separately as best as I can, and prob. in smaller "themed lots" by director or genre which is a great idea.

If you're concerned about not getting full value for them you can always have a reserve price.
I'll prob. do auction with a reserve price. I read that setting reserve prices usually don't sell as well, but for certain items such as OOP Criterions, that would be a wise choice.

Where’s your proof that they are probably putting out night of the living dead?

If I recall correctly the film has been rumored for forever. So yes, it is inevitable.

FilmForum put out a poster for the theatrical re-release of Night of the Living Dead for October and Janus Films is listed on it.

So yes, it's coming.

I'd rather they do Solaris first or better still The Limey

I only bought three today: Ghost World, Straw Dogs, and They Live By Night. I had three different 15% off coupons and was told immediately that Criterion was ineligible. Disappointing, but I had gotten two discounted gift cards online, so I still did pretty well. There were a bunch more I would have liked to pick up, but almost all of them were either re-shrinkwrapped or beat up digipaks. At least when I order from Criterion, they'll replace any damaged boxes, but with B&N, it's a roll of the dice, both in store and online.

"The Limey" is a huge omission on BD. Unfortunately, a lot of the better films that Live Entertainment/Artisan released still haven't made it to BD. Four in particular are "Bob Roberts", "Trees Lounge", "The Limey", and "Ghost Dog". "Ghost Dog" has an overseas release, but a more definitive edition would be nice. All four would be good fits for Criterion IMO.

"Kafka" would be a cool choice. Interesting, flawed film that never had a US DVD release.

If shipping from B&N site to UK are you going to get slapped with tax on 3 discs and if so, do people find you usually get away with orders of 2?

I was just looking at my DVDs that desperately need an upgrade and it saddens me that Curtis Hanson's Wonder Boys hasn't had a BD release yet.

For a very experienced seller who knows the precise value of his product, Buy It Now is fine. It all depends on what the seller is expecting to receive and how quickly he wants a sale. An overpriced BIN listing could sit there for ages, but an auction listing with a low starting price could attract lots of bidders who get target locked and push that price way up way beyond what the seller expected.

Having a reserve price does put some people off because they know they're not going to get away with buying a valuable item for cheap from a naive seller. Honestly, if it were me, I would list it in an auction style bidding and don't bother with a reserve price. Criterions sell well, and OOP Criterions even more so. No matter what you'll make a good ROI.

YMMV - some people get hit regularly, some (like me) almost never. I always buy in batches of around $100 worth to spread the cost of shipping. Much more than that and you risk either customs, B&N declaring everything at full price (really!) or them sending it by courier and that costing you a fortune.

In three years of sale orders (72 SKUs) I've only been hit with customs once - on a single title that they kindly sent UPS Priority because it had been OOP and ended up costing me an additional £20.50

My take is that, even if I do get hit eventually, the average over these last three years will still be extremely good

Also bear in mind even a single disk at $20 is over the UK customs limit.

Just a reminder, folks, that there is a thread dedicated entirely to the BN sale.

I'm extremely happy for all of you regarding your recent acquisitions, but I don't want to see actual discussions related to films in the Criterion Collection being lost amongst the countless posts about "When does the sale start?", "Today I bought x, y, and z", or "I just got my shipping notice!"

Had to cancel and reorder Sanjuro & Yojimbo again, had dropped another buck or so, so with a Prime discount and tax it was almost $20 even, loving that

Have any of you reserved Criterion discs for instore pickup? I am trying to do this through their website, but it states that I will be charged the "store price" upon pickup. Currently, the "store price" is full price, and does not reflect the 50% Off Sale. Anyone have experience with this? Did they attempt to charge you full price upon pickup? Trying to get an answer to this via online chat right now and it's like pulling teeth...

Don't worry about that. I used to work in a BN. It's only because sometimes books are heavily discounted on the site but typically are full price in store. And you have no idea how many times at the register people would say "but on the website it's x dollars" and would angrily leave.

In this case, the store price and the sale price for the Criterions are going to be exactly the same.
