The other major factor is that labels such as Warner, Fox and Sony don't have to pay lucensing fees for movies they own.

I'm sure it's just the usual fantasy wishlist thing. There is zero indication that Criterion plans to release it as far as I know.

No Psycho from criterion as far I know also. Very possibly upgrades of Spellbound & Notorious I'm thinking. The Lodger was a very nice surprise.

God I am so with you on that.

I've been saying for years now that Criterion needs to start releasing more tv shows.

...especially the classic ones from the 90s.

Nah, the Film Forum run is an actual engagement. Five shows a day for two weeks. They've been known to extend runs as well.

Last time I checked Universal's rights on its Hitchcock holdings run through the mid 2050s. I'll never say never but probably not unless the bottom falls out of the blu-ray market.

I was actually just thinking about this recently. I was wondering if Criterion might eventually be able to snag Psycho and release a new 4K restoration. It would be years down the line, though. Universal aren't giving up that one anytime soon. Same with other Universal-owned Hitchcock titles.

I was also thinking if Criterion might be able to release the big Kubrick films one day...

I successfully exchanged my copy of Mr. Fox earlier today, and 12 Angry Men and Great Dictator arrived in the mail!

Doesn't mean they wouldn't license it out to Criterion. Money could still be made on their release while the hardcore cinephiles and Criterion fans would spring for the premium edition.

Criterion The Janus Films-Criterion Pipeline (July 2016-July 2017)

I thought it'd be interesting to look at the turnaround times for Tour-to-BR with the Janus Films-Criterion pipeline. The tour dates I'm using are for the Cleveland Cinematheque. They mostly book Janus films as soon as they become available or shortly thereafter.

Night of the Living Dead could happen in November. Let's hope it's not put on the back burner like Dragon Inn. It will be fascinating to see how they handle the Monterey Pop re-release (UHD/BR combo?) and potentially Solaris. New editions would boast 4K transfers but they've got to give incentives to double dip or offer a trade-in deal.

Criterion would be stupid not to release Night of the Living Dead for Halloween. Hell, Halloween is on a Tuesday. Perfect day to release it.

Also, I don't see them releasing any films on UHD...at least not any time soon. It'd be cool if they released Monterey Pop in the new format, but if I was to bet on it, I'd say it's not happening.

They never announce new releases on the weekends. We're lucky if we get the announcement on the 15th when it falls on a weekday.

A few recent posts on Ugetsu, so as my local B&N had three copies in pretty much pristine condition, I picked one up. A blind buy, but probably a safe one given the universal praise. After saying I was done at four titles this sale, that makes five. And then of course there's the release of Stalker this coming Tuesday...

So I'm a bit lost, are they supposed to announce titles this coming week?

The 15th is a Saturday so most likely the new announcements will be on Monday the 17th.
