My mistake.

Oh, and I forgot to add the film John Huston's The Dead to my most wanted.
Arguably one of the most poetic, poignant films ever made.

Kino put out a brilliant Making of documentary, a long time ago, which would make a brilliant extra.

Personally I'd go with Carnival of Souls and Yi Yi. Safe is a Julianne Moore showcase but with the Haynes touch, I like it but it's not for everybody.

Definitely Videodrome! One of Cronenberg's finest films with Deborah Harry getting kinky with James Woods and a pulsating, writhing TV screen. What you need is a touch of the new flesh.

Lone Wolf and Cub Diapers and decapitations. Quite a saga! One of my favorites outside of Zatoichi.

Safe Julianne Moore puts in a vulnerable, yet fearless performance of a upper middle class woman finding out that she may be allergic to the blowback of our times. What a haunting film.

Out of your list, I find these three to be stone cold classics IMHO.

I would suggest checking out any trailers that might be on Youtube.

I, personally, would also recommend Videodrome.

I would absolutely refer the shorter version. The editing and pace is much tighter.

Agreed. The extended version is worth a look once, but the added scenes didn't do much for me (doesn't help they filled in some missing scenes with stills). The theatrical cut is best for the first viewing.

Pro-B seems to confirm what I initially thought, that the 2016 Studiocanal release is from the same 4K restoration as the CC release. I do find it strange that there were some discrepancies in color between them.

Quote:
It is pretty obvious that this upcoming release is sourced from the same outstanding 4K master that StudioCanal worked with when they prepared their release of Sid & Nancy in 2016. I personally could not see any meaningful discrepancies between the two to mention in our review.

This is one of the discrepancies I'm talking about. The top is from Pro-B's review of the Studiocanal release, while the bottom is from DVDBeaver of the Criterion release. There is a noticeable, and I'd say significant difference between the two in terms of color, brightness, and contrast. Could it just because they're not from the same exact frame? I also feel like the Criterion transfer has more detail.

I picked up The Killing and will be looking at some other titles over the weekend
I really enjoyed The Killing, it also included the Kubrick's prior film Killer's Kiss which I liked but it didn't feel like a Kubrick film.

Full Body Massage is in my top 20.

...along with The Rapture, Chained Heat and Weekend at Bernie's.

Over Top Gun?

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

...did I miss an epic shirtless bowling scene in Two Lane Blacktop?

Of these, Yi Yi and Safe would be my personal choices.

I love Safe. I first saw it in a theater and I've talked about it ever since. That said, it's definitely not for everyone, and I can't completely disagree with people who compare it to watching paint dry. This is the film that put Julianne Moore into my top tier of actors to watch, and beyond that, the movie just plain left me disturbed. A good Todd Haynes project. For a lot of people, it's a film they're glad to have seen but didn't necessarily enjoy watching.

I just wanted to toss out an alert that it's really different from the other stuff on your list.

I'm a "Weekend at Bernie's 2" guy myself. The Caribbean setting allowed Silverman and McCarthy to really unleash it. "Ski School" is also up there for me. Dean Cameron's finest hour.

Two? What do you mean you only opened two? I can't figure out just two! So let's pretend you opened two hundred. Now, if you opened two hundred Criterions, apart from being dreadfully broke, you'd have used up twenty percent of one-thousand.

Sadly they aren't even opened. They are sitting back at home waiting for me to get back from vacation in about 2 weeks. Stalker is also waiting for me as well.

The new loading screen on YouTube looks a whole lot like the Criterion logo.
