I'll happily buy 4K + Blu-ray combo packs of future Criterion titles if they decide to release them as such, though.

I'm treating the rest of my collection the same way. I buy newer "from here on out" movies (La La Land, The Revenant, etc.) in 4K + Blu-ray combos, but my existing Blu-rays are the final versions of those movies in my collection.

...just because the thought of building up my movie collection all over again breaks my heart. I'm getting too old for that.
I won't upgrade for likewise reasons but more importantly the never advertised mandatory backdoor trojan horse in every 4 k player that can force internet use and tie discs to players. Negates the purpose of physical media. I will consider double dipping on some titles remastered in 4k on Blu ray discs though.

I found the Criterion Blu-ray of Harold and Maude for $10 at a used Blu-ray store earlier today. That's cheaper than the B&N sale, and this is a title that has always moderately intrigued me, so I pulled the trigger.

Great film, Owl. You will not be disappointed. Total steal at $10.

Actually, I saw the new 4K restored version of Seven Samurai at Shanghai International Film Festival this year, it looked way better than any previous blu-ray of this film...

I met a hitchhiker like Harry Dean Stanton once, just outside of Missoula, Montana, on the road to Denver, Colorado.

Took him as far as Beaverhead.

Real nice guy.

...we're still in touch to this day.

The cinematography (framing, lighting, etc.) always reinforces the idea of each character's loneliness, visually. EDIT: I found a link for that interview I mentioned. Very long and very good, if anyone is interested. My favorite quote from the whole thing: "Nothing regarding man is ever inhuman. That’s why I make films, not iceboxes."

I am only about halfway through it so far, but Repo Man has proven itself to be one of my favorite blind buys of all time. This has to be one of the most entertaining, enjoyable and just plain awesome films in the collection. There are so many awesome nuggets in the film. United Fruitcake Outlet...I just about lost it!

Talk about capturing the essence of punk on film too. Alex Cox did an amazing job. Any other recommendations from his stuff?

Awesome design on the case artwork too. If only every blind buy I made turned out this awesome.

Love Repo Man! Another great film of his that's coming up from Criterion is Sid and Nancy though it's a much different film.

Highway Patrolman is definitely worth seeing as well. If you can find it, that is.

I disagree. I've had a 32", and currently have a 40" and a 23" TV. My wife doesn't see much of a difference between DVD and BD, but I see a very noticeable difference. Not as day follows night, but still a noticeable difference. I have a hard time watching anything in SD anymore. I put up with it for DVDs I have of titles that aren't -- and probably never will be -- released in HD. But only because I don't have a choice if I want to watch them.

And I'm far from being a "golden eyes".

Going forward, I agree. I would also happily go dual format again.
In theory, if I ever decide to get a UHD player and TV (which is a long shot), I would probably upgrade a few select titles -- Blade Runner is very tempting, even if it's just the Final Cut -- but I can't see upgrading will-he-nill-he.

That's what I said too, but some of the upgrades are amazing, even if they had 2K intermediates. I'm sure a lot of the older titles wouldn't be worthwhile, but some are fantastic. I just watched the UHD of Leon The Professional a few nights ago and it was amazing.

I've often wondered what he would think of this modern society where alienation is even more common, and humans are finding it more and more difficult to communicate in non-electronic ways. You should hear my therapist rant on this subject. She goes OFF!

I can't count the number of times I've been to Starbucks, for instance, and seen three or four high school-aged girls sitting there and almost never say a word to one and other. They are just texting -- to whom, I have no idea of course. But there they are for like an hour, and there's almost no human contact between them, even though they're sitting a foot or two away from each other.

I envy you, at least a little - saw it in the theatre over 30 years ago - and that's the reason I still buy blind from time to time. Such a great movie and I never cease to be amazed how much I enjoy Emilio Estevez in it - considering I was never a fan of him at all.

But you're right - credit Alex Cox for the pitch-perfect punk vibe. And I'd agree with MassiveMovieBuff re. Sid and Nancy. Even though it's really a love story, it's great.

Well, the second half was just as great as the first. I am floored. One of the best movie watching experiences I've had in a long while. I had no expectations going in at all, which is something I've found almost always contributes to a pleasant surprise. Every time I overanalyze a movie before watching or buying it, it ends up taking some of the fun of it by the time I watch the film. With Repo Man, I walked into a B&N to buy Stalker, but said "f it" after I was tempted by the artwork on the cover. No trailers, no reading reviews, nothing.

Anyway, Repo Man was awesome. Highly recommend to all, in the event I wasn't the last person left who hadn't seen it. Will have to consider checking out Sid and Nancy. I love me some Gary Oldman.

just curious how many people here are fans of "La Cage aux Folles," and how people feel about the remake. personally, i love "The Birdcage" but it's hard to imagine it could possibly be as funny w/o the outstanding cast of Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Hank Azaria, Gene Hackman & Dianne Wiest... i think that the cast itself it what makes the story so heartwarming and hilarious, but i'm curious how people feel about the original. does it also hold up? are there major cultural differences, i.e. jokes that may not translate well, etc.?

Oh, it's been so long since I've seen it. As I remember it, I thought it was very good. But I have no idea if it would hold up now.

I really liked The Birdcage as well. But then, almost everything with Natahan Lane is excellent -- just because he's in it.

Totally agreed!Sometimes when I was hanging out with my friends,I found out we barely talked.Everyone is looking on their cellphone or playing online games together, since I barely play online games,I only can read tapatalk pretending I am busy[emoji23].I really hope I can throw away my phone one day and cut away all the internet service to focus on something I want to do.I found it is too disturbing to have a phone.

The modern world where we are dwelling really shaped our life.It affected the way we look upon the world and how we live our life.I hope I can escape from this circumstance.I even hope I can live alone in a cave to escape from the modern world which make me feel so tired.
