Hariseldon would probably know best but I can't see many BN B&M locations stocking a set this large. I don't recall BN carrying the Kurosawa DVD set.

I mean, I do like the idea of reliving my childhood crush on Mary Lou Retton, but I doubt that I would ever find the time to watch all 32 of those Olympics discs.

I see your point, but I disagree. While I am a big sports fan, and I have often contemplated getting the 30 for 30 set, the Olympics are something else entirely. I have strong memories of the Olympics from throughout my life, and there are few, if any, other sporting events that evoke the same emotional response. There is a difference between sports stories, and stories about the world coming together for sports.

I have to agree on earlier comments on Sayles and Lee's films being poorly underrepresented on blu-ray.

The question is though: Which director's films are overrepresented on blu?

Michael Bay. His garbage should never have seen the light of day.

Slightly off topic, but I did see it mentioned here.

Did anyone place any orders with Barnes and Noble that were eligible for the $10 reward card? If so did you receive it yesterday? I was eligible and they were due to be e-mailed on August 9th, but I did not get anything.

I reached out to customer service, but no response yet.

Wow Criterion is going Olympic. I saw that on Comingsoon.net. Here is a little inside:

Criterion to release 100 Years of Olympic Films box set

The Criterion Collection has announced their upcoming release of 100 Years of Olympic Films. Spanning fifty-three movies and forty-one editions of the Olympic Summer and Winter Games, this one-of-a-kind collection assembles, for the first time, a century’s worth of Olympic films – the culmination of a monumental, award-winning archival project encompassing dozens of new restorations by the International Olympic Committee.

Both the 32-Blu-ray edition and the 43-DVD edition will retail for $399.95 and will be available for pre-order on November 7, officially hitting stores on December 5.

These documentaries cast a cinematic eye on some of the most iconic moments in the history of modern sports, spotlighting athletes who embody the Olympic motto of “Faster, Higher, Stronger”: Jesse Owens shattering sprinting world records on the track in 1936 Berlin, Jean Claude-Killy dominating the slopes of Grenoble in 1968, Joan Benoit breaking away to win the first-ever women’s marathon on the streets of Los Angeles in 1984.

In addition to the work of Bud Greenspan, the man behind an impressive ten Olympic features, this stirring collective chronicle of triumph and defeat includes such landmarks of the documentary form as Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia and Kon Ichikawa’s Tokyo Olympiad, along with lesser-known but captivating contributions by major directors like Claude Lelouch, Carlos Saura, and Milos Forman. It also serves as a fascinating window onto the formal development of cinema itself, as well as the technological progress that has enabled the viewer, over the years, to get ever closer to the action. Traversing continents and decades, and reflecting as well the social, cultural, and political changes that have shaped our recent history, this remarkable marathon of films offers nothing less than a panorama of a hundred years of human endeavor.

BLU-RAY AND DVD SPECIAL EDITION COLLECTOR’S SETS FEATURE
* 53 newly restored films from 41 editions of the Olympic Games, presented together for the first time
* Landmark 4K restorations of Olympia, Tokyo Olympiad, and Visions of Eight, among other titles
* New scores for the silent films, composed by Maud Nelissen, Donald Sosin, and Frido ter Beek
* A lavishly illustrated, 216-page, hardcover book, featuring notes on the films by cinema historian Peter Cowie; a foreword by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee; a short history of the restoration project by restoration producer Adrian Wood; and hundreds of photographs from a century of Olympic Games

I just placed an order for Lost in America, in order to squeeze one last drop of juice out of the B&N sale.

Very interesting. Are you saying that if I go to the store during the current sale, I can do a ship-to-home of August or September titles and get 50% off on those, too? I may have to reconsider my current blu ray budget allocation.

It's just 900, and then 155 because of Tokyo Olympiad, which could see an individual reissue, but probably not for a few years.

At most I'd expect two more individual releases for Olympia 1 & 2 (1938) and Visions of Eight (1973) in a few years, as those are the other films that received full blown 4k restorations.

But those are the films that really sell this set, so it will be a while before they are likely to spin them off for individual releases.
