While certainly not one of Hitchcock's best I personally think Spellbound has a quite few merits going for it. The dream sequence being one of them.

If Criterion could get any Hitchcock I'd love to see them get Shadow of a Doubt with a Bluray release from a 4k scan.

Would also be nice if they got some of his older films. I feel they benefit most from a new HD transfer since many of them look terrible on DVD. Secret Agent would be one I'd like to see. Big fan of Peter Lorre and it has some pretty good stuff in there. The Dog hollering as his master is killed. The Secret agents killing an innocent man, the wrong guy. Always thought this one would of made a better remake then The Man Who Knew Too Much. Where I find the Stewart remake a little too glossy for my tastes.

It never ceases to amaze me how our expectations of films can impact our reaction to them. Change the expectations and you change the perspective.

I first saw Paris, Texas two years ago after I blind bought it during the Barnes & Noble summer sale. I didn't really have any idea what it was about, but for some reason I thought it was going to be a 70s-style film set in the Texas desert.

Needless to say, I did not like it.

I just watched it again last night, knowing exactly what to expect going in and lo and behold...I loved it.

...I am haunted by expectations.

The current release of Shadow of a Doubt is excellent. Not saying it can't be improved upon, but as a Hitchcock devotee, I'd rather complete my collection (from the 1934 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much onward), with releases of the four remaining titles not on BD: Secret Agent, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Under Capricorn, and Stage Fright. I believe the last two are with Warner's, so a possibility of a Criterion release (or perhaps more likely, WAC).

Agree 100%. I also really expected Criterion to release the Hitchcock 9. (9 of his earliest surviving silent films that were carefully restored by BFI a few years back and sent around film festivals. Would make a excellent boxset IMO. Many of the films I've never seen or saw in a washed out pubic domain dvd release.

Let's be honest, none of these are deserving of Criterion.

That would be great. I am very interested in his silent work, and the sound films prior to 1934's The Man Who Knew Too Much, but I'm not a completist when it comes to his earlier works. I'd buy any legitimate BD release from the period (as I did with The Lodger/Downhill), but I've held off of the public domain DVD stuff as I'd rather not fund a cash-grab by a party who has no real affinity with the material.

Criterion, WAC, KL - it doesn't matter to me. As long as they get released. But you can't tell me that Criterion wouldn't be interested in releasing any film by one of the 20th Century's most revered and influential directors.

I wasn't sure what to expect either. For me, I was blown away when I saw it. Such an amazing script. It's most famous scene I think is one of the best written, acted, and directed scenes in movie history. Nothing flashy, but the simplicity in that scene is what made it so powerful.

Just curious of your guys opinion, what would you personally consider the "worst" film on criterion, and which film in the collection would you say doesn't deserve to be in it? For me personally as far as "worst" or the movie I enjoyed the least it would probably be "A Safe Place". I just wasn't into it, but I get why it's in the box set. As far as a movie that doesn't deserve to be there I'm a little stumped. I'm curious to see if there's any general consensus on a movie that is really debatable as to why it's in the collection.

Without looking at their blu ray library. I'd go with, Jellyfish Eyes and Insignificance.

It's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" that's with Warners, not "Under Capricorn". I'm not sure who has the rights to "Under Capricorn", the US DVD was released by Image.

The worst/least favorite that I've seen, off the top of my head, is probably Tiny Furniture. I don't actually "hate" it or anything, it was just a rather average, somewhat typical millennial-era American indie film with nothing particularly remarkable about it. Actually, I just thought of Border Radio which is on Criterion DVD only (hehe, don't expect an upgrade of that thing). That one may be the worst from what I've seen.

Those would be my picks as well, but I wouldn't call them "worst" films. I just don't see how they fit any of the criteria of the collection.

I enjoy both of those much more than a good portion of the collection. One I was especially excited for that didn't click with me at all was Abbas Kiarostami's CLOSE-UP (1990).

What? Insignificance is great, agreed on Jellyfish Eyes (It's also probably the title most out of place of all in the collection, at least A Safe Place makes sense based on the Box set context)

Also The Rock is good, maybe for a different audience but as far as action films go I don't think it's bad, have yet to see Armageddon though.

I haven't seen Jellyfish Eyes. Is it really worse than A Safe Place?
