He's kind of an Indie Woody Allen, although not nearly as funny as Allen's best, or as pretentious as Allen's worst. It's a shame that the only film of his in the collection might be his worst (I haven't seen them all). Henry Jaglom is not a one-turd wonder.

An Eclipse set of his work would not be a bad idea.
"Tracks" with Dennis Hopper is a good film that deserves more love. Also, "Sitting Ducks" is a good comedy. He really got off the rails when he started to try to be another Woody Allen, when he's simply not as talented as Woody Allen. But I will disagree that Jaglom's films aren't as pretentious as Allen's worst. Some of Jaglom's worst films are some of the most pretentious films you will ever see, far more than any of Woody's films.

Does anyone here know if Barnes & Noble has plans to do a 40% off sale now that the 50% off July sale is over? Any news regarding this?

I have the day off today. Let's get this solar eclipse foolishness out of the way, so that I can watch Canoa: A Shameful Memory.

No, but there's the Criterion FLASH Sale due sometime next month.

"Pretentious" was a poor choice of words on my part. Allen sometimes wears his influences on his sleeve, so to speak, and not always successfully. I also did not wish to equate Jaglom with Allen, except to note that they both frequently use ensemble casts. Allen is clearly the superior filmmaker. Not only is he funnier, but he is a master of plot construction, which makes him the polar opposite of Jaglom.

I enjoyed movies such as Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? and Eating. They're essentially movies about nothing (to borrow a Seinfeld phrase), but I appreciate the feel of them, for lack of a better description.

Jaglom's style may not be to everyone's taste, but I think it's unfair to consign a filmmaker to be forever a target of cheap shots based on a freshman effort.

Tracks is a great film. One of my favourite Dennis Hopper performances.

When your replacement copy of Persona arrives in worse condition than the broken original one.

"Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?" is a good film as well. Jaglom, in the beginning of his career, did make some solid films.

Surely, today is a good day to revisit Dolores Claiborne or that last Berserk movie.

Man, eclipses on film makes everything messed up.

I expected this to be in October. Any confirmation it's been changed to September?

Thanks for the info. I'll keep checking back to see if they change anything. After my next purchase I'll get my CC certificate, so definitely don't want to miss out on this Flash Sale.

Forgive me for I've sinned and provided y'all with conflicting info.

The sale's indeed destined to take place during October.

Damn those FLASH sales! They catch you off guard, like when you're bubble bathing and someone barges in! What are you supposed to do?!
