Too bad Criterion: Vinegar Syndrome beat you to it: LIQUID SKY is finally coming to bluray later this year, courtesy of VS. Too cool to be forgotten. Thank you VS. I was hoping to see it in the C collection, but I'll take it any way I can get it.

I think After Hours has the biggest chance of getting a release, considering the influx of Warner releases announced for the next few months. It would be very confusing to see Criterion pass on it, as it would either be released as a Warner Archive Blu-ray, or just not at all.

The Age of Innocence is stuck in the same dillemma- either a distributor like Criterion releases it (great), or Sony will probably release on their Choice Collection line (not great).

1997 was a helluva year for depressing movies. In addition to The Ice Storm, there was also The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction. Great movies, but harrowing to watch.

I don't know, but when the subject of Scorcese films comes up, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore hardly ever gets mentioned. It's a great movie that won a shitton of awards in its day. Ellen Burstyn is terrific in it, as usual.

I think that's getting a BD release soon, though.

Alice and Knocking were both announced in the UK this year, and then cancelled. I hadn't heard anything further since then.

I'd expect Warner to release the Warner-owned ones themselves, but there seemed to be a consensus that Criterion was likely to release the new 4k transfer of Age of Innocence.

It sounds as if it's unlikely that Kundun will ever get an American release because Disney thinks it would offend China.

Don't forget Mean Streets went OOP along with a number of other WB titles (including Barry Lyndon) that Criterion has released or announced. So the odds are that is going to get released by Criterion.

What a stupid shame. Disney will bend over backwards for one of their primary sources of revenue. That's why we have a white master for Doctor Strange. I don't understand why they can't just sell the rights to films they're not proud of, same goes to Song of the South, to a label if they don't want to get their hands dirty? Withholding any kind of film from the public is flat out wrong. You don't see people taking away Triumph of the Will from the public.

Can you imagine a Criterion release of Song of the South? They would sell so many they would not be able to keep up with the demand. Nothing makes us want to own a movie more than authority telling us we can't have it.

You're essentially comparing a Disney movie to hard drugs.

BS! They haven't exactly bent over backwards to give American consumers 3D versions of films originally released in 3D.

I would be buying it just for the historical context and have a feeling many would be doing so. I imagine that Criterion could not even keep up with the demand and that it be a scalper's fantasy.

A Scorsese faith boxset with Last Temptation/Kundun/Silence would be fantastic.

I know it will never happen, but a Criterion release of the new Twin Peaks season would be simply delightful. I've long said that they should look for an opportunity to branch out into the occasional television release.

I can't imagine that Showtime is chomping at the bit to spend the money to put the Return out on blu-ray.

...from what I understand, the ratings weren't that great.

I don't really care at this point. I just want The Return to be released, now. (Both the series and the film )

The ratings were quite low for Showtime's standards but CEO David Nevins has said The Return was a big success for Showtime because they made the most new streaming subscribers with it and the summer as a whole was great due to Twin Peaks bringing so many new subscribers.

Streaming really is the future for both TV and cinema.
