Friday... really? I highly doubt it. Count on announcements being on next Tues. It seems they have a bunch of slacker millennials handling the announcements these days.

CC worker: Phone call to boss... "Ummmm, I (cough) can't come in today because I went to a raging party last night and got so stoned and laid... and feel like a wreck this morning."
CC Boss: "Ummmm, ok. You do what ever you feel is best. But we were suppose to release the upcoming announcements today. But it's fine. You stay home (cough) and recover. The world revolves around YOU after all. We get it (wink)."

Without clear intent from Kubrick that he really preferred a different edit and wanted it changed, leave it the way he left it. Even to the point that if he left the edit to spite the so called "them" who forced a change, it's his work. If you don't like it make your own movie.
I would mostly agree with this with the caveats that as long as the original version of anything remains available a remix, re edit, re-whatever becomes a lot less of an issue.

Also artists aren't the end all be all judges of their work. Kubrick wanted Clockwork canned and John Lennon is prone to trashing some of The Beatles' best work. But overall I do agree it's probably best not to tamper with the original work, especially when the artist is that adamant about it.

I was just slightly curious.

As for your final comment: I have my made own movie, and will again next year. So do I have your permission to have my own musings on 2001: Space Odyssey?

I'm sure you know my comments weren't directed to you specifically. Put another way, lets say I wrote a book and had a 99 year contract with a publishing house. I pass away but the publishing company keeps doing re-prints because people like it and want to buy it. Another author connected with this publishing house has some early drafts of my book where I'd considered alternate plot lines but wasn't happy with them so went another direction. This other author gets together with the publisher and says let's put out a new and improved edition with how this book could have ended, we'll clean up with this new edit. All other legalities being worked out, I think ethically it should be done as a new book with a new author and title My Take on jbieste's story.

Everyone's free to muse all they want about what the film could have been if Kubrick used these cuts. It's that slippery slope when they start getting added to the package w/o creators approval. Musing is healthy, better still it's creative.

Criterion

Looking at the history of Criterion blu-ray releases in December shows they always deliver at least one upgrade. They've also been known to release a box set in December. Criterion released the BBS set in time for Christmas in 2010. Also, Qatsi and World Cinema were December releases. The Olympic set may be that box set but there could be another smaller box of a few films. We'll see.

Potential upgrades for December?
Pickup on South Street
Elevator to the Gallows
Tales of Hoffmann
La Strada
The Virgin Spring
The Lady Eve
Spellbound
Notorious

That seems like a hyperbolic comparison; so far as I understand it, the footage in question was found in tact as originally cut into the film by Kubrick. He was rushing to get the film edited in time for the premiere, and after he saw it with an audience, he took it out. I'm not suggesting that it belongs in the movie, but putting it back would not be the work of a new artist after the fact, that's the whole reason that it would be an interesting thing to present in some manner. It would just be "Kubrick's pre-release cut".

No. I wasn't sure hence my rebuttal. E-communication can be void of context sometimes (specifically tone). On the other hand I pretty much agreed with your original post, so we're good.

This is the way I originally understood it too.

I don't think a lot of people have seen it and it wouldn't sell well if released by Universal. It would be right up Criterion's alley. The type of release film aficionados would welcome.

I know it's a Universal property, but I wonder if Criterion would release "Going My Way" on BluRay? It's inexcusable that this film isn't on BluRay even more so when "The Bells of St. Mary's" is on BluRay.

*edit* nevermind I was thinking of The Belles of St. Trinian's . Love that movie its hilarious.

Also wish Criterion would work out some deal to get all the Ealing Studio films that have been released in the UK.

I'm still waiting on Red Beard & Onibaba. Onibaba's a regular Halloween play for me.
