Apparently Criterion doesn't have the rights anymore, unfortunately.

I welcome anything, but Kobayahi's The Human Condition would be cool. As would The Return (the Russian film.) Doesn't even seem like that's on the horizon, though. And Talk To Her... or more Satyajit Ray.

Devi is said to be the next S. Ray film in the pipeline but there's been no news of a restoration.

Both The Return & The Banishment are coming from Kino next year.

Usually December announcements are on the lighter side, so Criterion may indeed announce today even though I totally have no expectations.

I'm actually pretty sure that the next Ray release will be The Hero

If we don't have a Harold Lloyd title in the December announcements, then Criterion will have neglected Lloyd for more than two complete years (all of 2016, 2017, and who knows how much of 2018).

It doesn't seem the same without some clamoring for Le Samourai.

If I recall, the last few years Decembers have only been 3 or 4 titles compared to the usual 5-6 title months.

I don't think a lot of people have seen it and it wouldn't sell well if released by Universal. It would be right up Criterion's alley. The type of release film aficionados would welcome.
King of Jazz would definitely be very welcome news to me. For some reason, I've had a sneaking suspicion that this title would somehow end up with Criterion.

That sounds familiar. Is that from The Tree of Life?

As I drift away from an announcement, and toward happy hour, here are a few seldom mentioned upgrades that I'd love to see:

The Spirit of the Beehive
Hobson's Choice
My Man Godfrey
Stranger Than Paradise

100% agree with your wish. Many moons ago, this was my first taste of Bergman. I was so mesmerized by this film that I immediately went on a Berman spree and watched all his films I could find. Needless to say, I was obviously overloaded since we all know his films are deep. Each 15th (or 16th or 17th) I eagerly anticipate an upgrade to The Virgin Spring.
Also, a huge shout-out to those mentioning any new releases of any Harold Lloyd or Chaplin films.
