I hope not. I already bought it twice on Blu-Ray, and I figure the last edition was as good as it gets. I don't know if my wallet could handle a Criterion upgrade.

As an alternative interpretation, I suggest this:

Food is necessary to live. And these look like the kind of hearty sandwiches one could buy in Texas. With the cross-shaped toothpicks, there may be a certain religious undertone. And coffee? Coffee gives energy, just like the sun gives energy to the Earth. And what movie features life, Texas, religion, and the cosmos?

Tree of Life confirmed!

My personal wish is to add Lolita by Stanley Kubrick (1962) or Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941) to this growing juggernaut of a collection.

I'm far from the most plugged in person on matters like this, but word on the street is that Breakfast Club is coming, but 16 Candles is not.

Count me in for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Count me out for another double-dip.

I'm 100% with you on Lolita, but Mr. & Mrs. Smith??? Hitch managed to incorporate a lot of humorous moments in his movies (and was himself clearly endowed with a great sense of humor), but to me Mr. & Mrs. Smith is proof that actual comedies just weren't his forte. I found it downright boring when I saw it a few years ago.

Count me in for Election. One of the best American films of the 1990's IMO.

My first exposure to Harry Dean Stanton was through the 1979 Ridley Scott film, Alien, where he played the unfortunate spaceship crew member who went searching for the cat. Later on, I saw him as the ill-fated father in Red Dawn (1984), as Molly Ringwald's father in Pretty in Pink (1986), as Bud in Repo Man (1984), and, most importantly, as Travis Henderson in one of my all-time favorite films, Paris, Texas (1983).

The list of my well-loved Harry Dean Stanton appearances is quite extensive, in fact. Ride in the Whirlwind (1966), Cool Hand Luke (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Dillinger (1973), The Godfather: Part II (1974), Wise Blood (1979), Private Benjamin (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Christine (1983), Slam Dance (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Wild at Heart (1990), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), The Green Mile (1999), and The Avengers (2012).

Rest in peace.
I'd like to add Alien (1979) and The Straight Story (1999)

I am in for Election. I really like that film and it reminds me of a younger time in my life. And man, Reese Witherspoon was on a serious roll back then. In a two-year period she was in:

Pleasantville
Election
Cruel Intentions
Legally Blonde

... And more.

I've already got you covered in there with Alien, but I've sadly never seen The Straight Story before. Soon...

Thanks for the reminder!

Agreed. I love character actors and was always happy when some of them got the right film and it led to them achieving stardom. Guys like Ward Bond, Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, etc. Bond and Oates didn't live long lives to enjoy theirs but Harry Dean did.

Has anyone seen Harry Dean Stanton's latest film, Lucky? It came out this year and I still want to see it!

It would be a disservice if this film doesn't get a blu-ray release now that he passed away.

What an AWESOME actor! I loved him.

Also, I was right about December being a "light" month. Nothing to see here, move along.

But hey, nice to see Payne in the Criterion Collection...let's bring About Schmidt to Criterion next! Comeon Criterion, don't be a Payne in the ass!

About Schmidt will be with Twilight Time at least until 2019. I wish Criterion would release Citizen Ruth but that's with Miramax/Lionsgate so it's not happening

I didn't know about this but it's now top of my to see list.

What're the odds in the same year Hugh Jackman would play Wolverine the last time, Steven Soderbergh would retire from filmmaking (again), and Harry Dean Stanton's final* film would be, respectively: Logan, Logan Lucky, and Lucky.

*No, I haven't checked and he likely has some more in the can.

Her career went to the toilet since Legally Blonde. Only Inherent Vice comes close to her early years, and she was in that for 3 minutes.

Eh? We've at least 2 major clues that suggest just the opposite, nevermind BC just had a 30th ann theatrical run and BR release. Time will tell I guess.

Off the top of my head, she's been in Walk the Line, Water for Elephants, Wild, and Devil's Knot since. Her career has hardly "gone into the toilet." I mean, she has 1 Oscar and 1 nomination for those roles. Don't get me wrong: awards do not equal artistic success. But it's tough to say that someone has won an Oscar and been nominated for another while her career is supposedly going into the toilet.

Let's not get crazy, now.

EDIT: Oh, and she was great (as was everyone else) in HBO's Big Little Lies.

Are you suggesting criterion put out a box set of Lucky, Logan , and Logan Lucky called 2017: A Lucky year for Logan? Because I'd buy at least 20 copies. Can someone go ahead and draft up the cover art for this beautiful, beautiful set?

Just my "crazy" opinion: Walk The Line was incredibly dull and conventional with the only great thing about it being Joaquin Phoenix. She only won because it was a weak year and she was the biggest actress of the time. Water for Elephants was an inferior Sophie's Choice clone with some nice shots. Wild was the best performance she gave since Election but the film itself wasn't anything to write about. Devil's Knot was bad and she gave a terrible performance. Before Legally Blonde, she used to challenge herself with roles like Freeway and Election. Now, it's Home Again and Hot Pursuit. I haven't seen an actor with so much promise taking the safe and lazy route since Johnny Depp.

And she was good in BLL, but everyone, especially Kidman, outdid her.
