I have a theater about twenty minutes from my place that shows mostly smaller or indie films. It's great because only old people go there, with the exception of me. I'm 30 and I'm usually the only person under 50 there unless my girlfriend or a buddy goes with me. No teens, no people with kids, just me and a bunch of old people who get super cranky about people talking or texting during films, etc.

I think when we get older, we get more mature and more refined. At least that's what I've noticed. We know what we want and are more intolerant to things that "get in the way" of our focus. It's a good thing, trust me.

Below are the seven films to receive an A+ from CinemaScore. People seem to love Oscar-bait. I'll bet people loved the shit out of "Forrest Gump" when they walked out of the theater in '94.

You know why people loved the shit out of Forrest Gump? Because it's a great movie. Simple as that.

A lot of very young people right now (let's say 21 and under) have been afflicted with "Ironic Detachment Syndrome". They want to have an ironic detachment from every single thing they watch. "If I don't like it too much and mock parts of it, then my dipshit friends will think I'm cool." They could be watching "12 Angry Men" or "The Seven Samurai" or "On the Waterfront" or "The Godfather" or any film that has zero content to be laughed at in an ironic or mocking way and still try to do it. Asking them to watch an old Vincent Price film, for example, with Vincent going over the top, in a sincere way would be practically impossible. Keep fighting the good fight, WrathOfHan.

I know that all art is subjective, but am I the only one who thinks Silence of the Lambs was just OK? I'll probably get it because it's one of wife's favorite films, but I just don't get the excitement over it. Maybe I need to see it again.

My sister-in-law is a nice woman, but not a real intellectually curious person, to put it gently. She'll go see any Ryan Reynolds film and drag my brother along because Reynolds makes her real hot and bothered. The film of Reynolds' she hated most was "Mississippi Grind", while my brother loved it. I think a lot of people like my sister-in-law went to "Killing Them Softly" because of Pitt. |

Killing Them Softly is a beautiful film with a epic cast. And the film does make me feel good. For instance, when Pitt's character tells Jenkins' character that he likes to 'kill 'em softly', I smile from ear to ear. I love that shit.
I do understand what you mean though. Forrest Gump is a great movie. Sinise's character lieutenant Dan is my favorite in the film. Gary Sinise is just bad ass anyways. They had 12 Jenny's. When people mention Ryan Reynolds movies to me I like to mention The Voices. Last edited by javy; 10-01-2017 at 01:38 AM. |

Like you said, all subjective. And I am glad it is getting a much needed remaster for its fans' enjoyment. |
