For the 40th anniversary of Dawn of the Dead next year, let's all write letters to Criterion to talk with New Amensterdam Productions to get Dawn of the Dead even George A Romero's Martin on blu-ray plus with all the cuts of Dawn and extras galore even a tribute to Romero featurette.

Dawn would look beautiful in 4K restoration in all 3 cuts.

Wont happen. The person who owns the rights wants way too much money for it. This is what I hear. Criterion will wind up losing money on it.

LOL, I really thought the sentence after 'Won't happen' was going to be 'We're all too lazy'.

Picked up Vampyr, Rebecca, and Repo Man. Originally was going to grab Barry Lyndon as well, but figured I'll wait to get that one and Othello in November at B&N. Probably should've orded And Everything is Going Fine since my local B&N never gets that one in stock - and every time I put something on order I completely forget that I did so.

I have heard this so many times now that I want to know just how much they're asking. Not that I have any concept of what film rights go for to compare it against, but this line gets trotted out so often I want more details.

Anybody seen The Lure? Or is anyone taking a chance on it? I think I'd like to see it. Usually I like really offbeat films. I had others on my wish-list, though, so I balked.
I'm about halfway through and it's so weird and off the wall but so good. A Polish musical horror film about mermaids? What's there not to like?

Sadly I'm woefully behind on my seasonal viewing and I seriously doubt I could work in a Polish musical horror film about mermaids.

But there's always next year

(or Feb, probably Feb)

I COULD be wrong on this one but I think I recall seeing someone say he was asking for about a million for it? To put that into perspective I seem to remember Bill from Code Red saying he dropped about $350k for a handful of the Italian titles he licensed (which included Opera and The Church) and he was saying that was an absurd price to pay, so if I'm remembering the figures right then Rubenstein is truly delusional in his line of thought.

No he paid $100k for the 3 movies not $350k, whereas yes I do believe Rubenstein was asking for 7 figures.

I have already suggested this to Criterion’s head, Jon Mulvaney...Superman, with a 4K UHD of the theatrical version, plus the two other cuts of the film, in time for next year’s 40th anniversary.

Another thing to add to this is that it is rumored that that 7 figures is for a pretty short license period. So anyone that bites will not have much time to make their money back.

As much as I would love for that to happen, I would prefer they spend their money on Ran, the Hong Kong John Woo films, and anything by Guillermo del Toro. Everybody else is clamoring for NOTLD, and that will bring a whole new fold into the Criterion fandom. I just could not imagine WB would let Superman go. What would be nice would be for WB to do a big Superman I and II super-edit, but that won't happen either.
