It moved me so much, not emotionally, just my hand when I ficked channels to watch football games.

The Royal Tenenbaums - 100/10

IMDB better have this at #1 in the morning.

My favorite movie of all time! It is a "must own", epic classic that rivals anything Hollywood has produced in the past 20 years. Aaaaa ha!

Idk, I really like that movie. I also think (like other Anderson films), it's underrated as a flat out comedy. I laugh harder at certain scenes in that movie than 99% of other "comedies" I see. Also, I really don't understand the vendetta against Anderson. Is it just because other people seem to like him, or something about him (his films) that you actually dislike?

And I can't figure out who you're trying to goof on with this one. Disturbed, Wes Anderson, or both...

His films are supposed to be comedies?

Not necessarily. But, I would say that I think there is an incredible amount of humor in his films, which is obviously intended, so I'm not sure how you'd categorize it. I personally don't like to label things one way or another. Saying "flat out" was more just my way of attempting to make a point. How do you view his movies? Would you call them purely dramatic?

Nobody. Just gave a film review because I actually did watch it again today. I just carry the Anti-Anderson joke around because it stuck with me the first day we talked about him here (kind of like the Kurosawa joke.). It isn't like a Spielberg thing with me. My opinion seriously, I just don't care for his films outside of Life Aquatic. I just find it more entertaning to everyone that I just stick to my guns.

See I use the people who hate on Anderson's films all across the internet as a character myself on here. Mainly the ones who hates the fact he is in the Collection (like I give a s***).

For example,
News flash people! Kurosawa films don't suck. I'm just not a Kurosawa fanboy, like I am with Godard. See, isn't that boring?

To me they seem mostly serious with a dry sense of humor. Overall I enjoy Wes Anderson films. They aren't masterpieces but they are fun and enjoyable for the most part. My favorite two are Bottle Rocket and Life Aquatic. Though I still have not seen Mr. Fox so I can't speak on that one.

Yea, I've hung around here long enough to know the deal. I know it's just you messing with people most of the time, and it's all pretty much in fun. This time I was just having a hard time figuring out how serious you were about your dislike of that particular movie. I guess I was just giving my own "review"

I know you were kidding, but don't even joke about something like that. The Royal Tenenbaums is just too bad to even joke or make a comment like that.

It's all fine. I like his movies (like I will watch them). I wouldn't go too far as to include them in a favs list or double dip on them (keeping my Darjeeling dvd, not getting the blu). Though never say never. One day I might.

With that "review" I just thought I bring the mood up a little on a slow day that had one movie question, and a movie review, in which turned into a crazy reply. Which kind of sounds like what I just did too.

Yea, I would say they're kinda hard to categorize. You definitely can't pigeon hole them one way or another. I guess, to me, the things that always stood out, and the things I always responded to the most in his films were the humorous elements.

For example, you said Bottle Rocket was one of your favorites of his, the entire "heist" scene at the end of the movie totally cracks me up. If that doesn't make you laugh, then I can see how maybe you wouldn't find a lot of things in his movies funny, because I think it's also one of the more purely comedic moments in any of his films.

Also, after you brought it up, I checked IMDB just for fun, and this is how they had it listed:

Genres: Comedy | Drama

So, apparently, I'm not totally crazy.

This really does have me curious though, cause I always thought his movies were really funny, for the most part. If anyone else wants to check in with their opinion, please do, I'd love to hear it.

I find them funny. I even find the film references funny (if they were not intended to be funny, then he is worse than Tarantino at "homages").

You and your Continental erotica...but of course we watch them all simply for the brilliant cinematography, don't we?

Yeah, I've always thought of them as mostly comedic.

Thinking about it a little more, maybe it is the ridiculousness of it all. Think about the characters in all of them, basically all are caricatures.

No. I watch erotic films for the erotica

In fact, erotica is a genre that is very well represented in my library (Italian and Spanish films in particular). From Lina Wertmuller to Alain Robbe-Grillet to Walerian Borowczyk, there is a lot that I like a lot. I also really enjoy what Jean-Claude Brisseau does in France these days - very original and bold director (which Criterion should have introduced in the United States). Matias Bize as well.

On this side of the Atlantic erotica is equated to pornography, which is extremely sad. Suffice to say, though, I follow the genre very closely and buy plenty of films regularly.

If a film has a meaningful story to tell, and I am intrigued, I would watch it.

You know what there is a lot of on here? Bagging on films/directors with absolutely no logic or reasoning behind the negative attitude towards them.

Wow, you dislike Wes Anderson and can sarcastically "review" his films. But can you actually state what you specifically dislike about the films without resorting to the cop out statement "They aren't bad films, I just don't like them". If that was the case ya'll wouldn't harbour such resentment toward them.

Not to just single you out CG, but you were the latest in a series of many.

Seven Samurai looks insane btw.

Indeed, the general views in America on sex and nudity, especially of art and the cinema, is one of many reasons I wish I could move permanently to Europe.
