Chin up Ray. I'm sure there's more than a few ex-wives out there who'd love to ease some of that heartache. We could setup a thread for you. I think I know a gal named Betty who used to pass around snakes at revivals. Sure there are many more like her.

I feel like I'm 80 yrs old now. Get with it. Should I even mention Allen is a very accomplished Jazz Clarinet player. & this film is from 2011 & still the first 20mins of it are better than any film Baumbach has ever made.

Irrational man, Blue Jasmine & Cafe Society are all better also.

Would you apply the same criteria to old movies (your collection suggests otherwise?) Just dumb. Also worth noting that music choice that try to be"relevant" usually age very badly.
Ha. That was my best impression of being a troll for the first time.... (did I succeed?).

I obviously meant that as a joke! Gullible, you guys.

Jazz will never become outdated of course. I actually play it myself (whether its on my guitar or iTunes). Ha!

Please put the BN sale dates in spoiler tags. I don't want to know about the sale until it happens.

Amazon has a 50% off sale on select horror titles (albeit some aren't horror). Good deal if you need any of these for Halloween.

Blob, The
Brood, The
Carnival of Souls
Cat People
Eyes Without A Face
Innocents, The
Kwaidan
Kuroneko
Pan's Labyrinth

Default Tampopo

I watched Tampopo the other night. It's a pleasant film with intermittent craziness. I thought that it might have been able to do without some of the vignettes that were diversions from the main plot. Comedy, being the most subjective genre... most of those scenes didn't really work for me.

I liked the Western tinges in the plot, but overall, I was a bit disappointed. Not a bad film at all, but I expected a home run instead of a ground-rule double.

Sale order arrived.

As I've been on a Hitchcock run lately, Rebecca will be up first.

Criterion Does Atanasov get early access to Criterion blu-rays?

Sorry this has probably been asked before but I couldn't help asking. As we've seen, Dr. Svet Atanasov (a Blu-ray reviewer with a great taste) posts his reviews sometimes weeks before the actual release dates. What's up with that? Does Criterion love him that much so they give him early access to their releases?

And if the answer is yes, man where do I sign up

(Atanasov for the win!!! )

Not a plug, but I have used that site before to find discounts. It's just a click-through to the actual merchants, and some merchant are more reliable than others. Read the reviews and good luck.

Also, there is a dedicated B&N discount thread on this site which will have a lot more information than I can give you.

Like various review sites, studios and labels give out "screeners" to this site. They are usually just plain Blu-rays without retail package. Sometimes they get the full retail package. As these reviews are meant to inform the public about the release, they are usually sent in advance of the street date, often by a couple it weeks.

Various movie blogs get advance screeners too, so if you want to try your hand at this, go ahead.

If you're ever in the UK threads one of our members regularly gets screeners weeks in advance of release. It's a good policy to send out discs as soon as possible, if reviews are out it helps pre-orders and week one sales.

It helps Blu-ray.com too, as reviews often lead to click-through sales.

I wonder if the material of Rick Moranis as the janitor was somehow salvaged.

I have heard about these deleted scenes for years and was wondering if they would ever see the light of day
