Repulsion was.
I'm gonna guess not. "Repulsion" is available, I'm sure, because it falls well within the sale dates. The August blu-ray titles, though, are not scheduled until the 18th, so I can't see Barnes & Noble extending it out that far for the pre-orders. You can always hope and pray, though... if that's you're kind of thing.

True, I don't actually expect they'll be available at the sale price.
But I will live in hope for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I read this on their site from their blu-ray faq:

Quote:
27. I am a convert to Blu-ray. Should I stop buying DVDs? Will all your titles come out on Blu-ray?

If you love these films, keep buying DVDs. It is going to be quite a while before the Blu-ray marketplace can support many of the titles Criterion releases on DVD. For new releases, if we think a title has a shot at succeeding on Blu-ray, we aim to put out both editions at the same time, so you can make an informed choice.
Has it been discussed in the thread yet? There's a few I want to pickup that I'm missing on DVD, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and do it. Specifically I'm looking for movies similar to Elevator to the Gallows.

Ok, I got a little carried away with the B&N sale. I already had all the currently-released Criterion Blu-rays, but I did pre-order Repulsion on BD, and then purchased the following on DVD:

2 or 3 Things I Know About Her
Contempt
Divorce Italian-Style
The Ice Storm
Made in U.S.A.
My Dinner with Andre
Ran
Science is Fiction
Throne of Blood
Videodrome

3 of my favorites Ran being numero uno! I watched Rashomon this weekend, great film. Love it. Kurosawa is the man.

I ordered Bottle Rocket and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from Amazon.com and the remaining seven BDs I needed to complete my Criterion Blu-ray collection from the B&N.com sale.

I have also pre-ordered the August and September titles as well as Howards End on Amazon.com.

I am up to date!

for dvds I went with

Seven Samurai
Le Samurai
Videodrome
My Own Private Idaho
Bicycle Thieves
Stray Dog

not bad at all. I may look into it again after I get back from vacation and see if anything grabs me but I got all the ones I really wanted, anything else would be a blind buy simply because the sale is so good (I'd be looking at diabolique, naked lunch, and I'm sure several others)

You should pick up Contempt and Ran for sure if you don't have them already. Purly for collecting sake, plus they're both incredible. They're both OOP, so this sale's a great time to snag those up as well.

I didn't get Ran because I saw it on this site, though with no release date.

should I just grab the dvd? they had it at my nearby barnes and noble so it's that much easier.

edit - hmm. oop might be a good enough reason. as I think I said I went with ones I already saw and if I break that 'rule' then I might empty my wallet. yes I am that compulsive.

but I don't want to be out $20 if it drops on blu-ray.

perfect... I decided I'd check their website for each out of print dvd release and the only ones they have are Ran and Contempt. reserved them at my local b&n and I'll get em after work.

I picked up The Last Emperor, The Third Man and The Seventh Seal, at B&N, last week. Then I ordered The Wages of Fear, El Norte, The 400 Blows, Last Year at Marienbad and In the Realm of the Senses from Amazon. Today, I picked up Chungking Express, The Last Metro and The Man Who Fell to Earth from a different B&N. I meant to get Bottle Rocket, also, but all of the stores in my area are sold out and even the website is sold out. I'm going to place an order at Amazon for Repulsion and For All Mankind, this evening, and hopefully a copy of Bottle Rocket shows up at B&N before the sale is over. If not, I'll bite the bullet and order it from Amazon for $25 to complete the collection.

RAN, well... ran.

One of my favorite pieces of movie memorabilia is an original (folded) poster from its U.S. release.

Question to those, who own "Wages of Fear" Criterion Collection BD: strangely enough, my version came in a regular amaray case, without the slipcase and not in a standard digipack. Does anyone own/know about the existence of the digipack release or a slipcase for this one?

That's the one I got.... Clear Case, no slip cover (like their new ones) I think the very first releases of this movie may have still been in the cardboard, but I'm not sure.
