Oh and did anyone catch The Social Network this weekend? Easily the finest film of 2010 so far. Masterfully directed, brilliantly written, impeccably acted, and gorgeously rendered. It says so much about so many things. Greed, ambition, loyalty, betrayal, our desire to connect and fit in, all at once examining our time in cultural history over the past decade, and fitting a taut, fascinating character study that examines human frailty and a sense of isolation. Can't think of a better film I've seen all year.

Criterion needs to get their priorities in order. Whenever it's released, I hope it's not digi. Steelbook baby! Wes Anderson is the bestest director like, ever! The way he dresses like a mother dresses a 4 year old to get his picture taken at Sears. So cute. This film rocked hard.

It moved me so much, not emotionally, just my hand when I ficked channels to watch football games.

The Royal Tenenbaums - 100/10

IMDB better have this at #1 in the morning.
Hey now watch the attitude with steelbooks, they're way better then any criterion case. It's 2010 who wants cardboard? If Criterions came in steelbooks...damn.

Then again that would result in all the tools buying them and having no idea what any of the movies are and complaining that it's not transformers.

Most Criterion Blu-Rays come in the nice clear cases. It's mainly the multi-disc cases that come in digipak cases. And even those are fairly high quality.

But ya, I do like steelbooks. I've collected all the Disney steelbooks. I don't go overboard with it though like many.

It didn't really blow me away, but it is one of the better American films I've seen this year. I think it will benefit from another viewing, but I still think that Zodiac is far and away Fincher's best film.

Let's just say that I enjoyed what Armond White wrote in response to the film.

Prediction: It might take five years before most people see The Social Network for what it really is. That’s about how long it will take to flush it through the media system, thus allowing viewers to respond without interference.

But I haven't watched the film, look forward to it though...

As for Armond White...

To be honest, I'm not sure I even understand what he's saying in that sentence (as is common with White, who often speaks in jibberish in his "reviews")

That divide is why I simply can't listen to Armond White. Even when I can see his points and understand, and even agree with some of what he says about a film, I have to remember the list of films Armond White thinks highly of, and then I feel better about myself.

How are the chances of a "Man Bites Dog" Blu-ray Release since there is already a French/Netherland Release (without English Subs unfortunately) ??

Didn't Criterion release Man Bites Dog back in the day on DVD? Going back a bit but sure they did. Would make an interesting addition on Blu.

I can't be the only one thats passed on buying Revanche because the essay is by Armond White. I didn't have much money, and it was between Hunger and Revanche, and I chose Hunger. I have no idea why Criterion used an essay from that idiot.

This is just a thought that keeps entering my mind. I wish CRITERION also put an down loadable MP3 track of of their commentaries on the disc, I love listening to the commentaries but I hate to be confined to my living room, usually I am doing computer work and it would be nice to listen to them that way.

Anyone else think this would be a great idea.

Many people have felt that. Even back with my LD's, I used to record the audio commentaries on tape during my commute.

"Revanche" is too good of a film to pass up because of an essay.

Anyone who put The Foot Fist Way in a list of terrible movies has no place commenting on the quality of a movie. A good percentage of the films in the list that White disliked are... garbage!

Revanche and Hunger are my two favorite films from 2008, which is why it came down to the essay when I only had enough money for one of them (very poor college student here). I'm sure I'll buy Revanche at some point because I love the film, its just a bummer that they couldn't have chosen an essay written by someone worth reading.

Wow, you dislike Wes Anderson and can sarcastically "review" his films. But can you actually state what you specifically dislike about the films without resorting to the cop out statement "They aren't bad films, I just don't like them". If that was the case ya'll wouldn't harbour such resentment toward them.

Not to just single you out CG, but you were the latest in a series of many.

Seven Samurai looks insane btw.
My only issue with similar reviews is that they are obsessed with the fans of the movies instead of the movies themselves. It is more about sticking it to the hipster phonies and Seven Samurai fanboys than the relative strengths and weaknesses of the films they pretend to review.

And more tedious than that are the implied or explicit mentions of "I'm a badass cuz I don't play those games" when in fact it is treating directors and artists like sports teams to pledge allegiance to and against, arbitrarily.

I think that there should be an unenforced rule that for every post "bagging" on a film with no reason given other than it sucks (nah, I'm just foolin'), you should have to specifically describe what you think is good about a film you do like (other than "It's awesome cuz no body gets it").

With that off my chest, I've never heard of Armond White.

Everyone familiar with movie reviews knows about Armond White. His deal is to generate attention for himself by giving great movies aweful reviews and aweful movies great reviews. I've read quite a few of his reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and they make little sense. I believe he was one of like 3 reviewers to give Toy Story 3 a negative review out of a couple hundred.
