Mine was The Ballad of Narayama. I haven't had the chance to buy another Criterion yet, but will definitely start collecting them very soon.

Wings of Desire and Paths of Glory are the two earliest ones on BD that I recall. It was Grand Illusion on DVD.

First DVD:

Because I saw a clip of this on TV and thought it looked marvelous. Sure enough, when I watched the films I was immediately smitten by their style. I'm actually still a little mad this set hasn't hit Blu-Ray yet.

On Blu-Ray:

This was a no-brainer for me, I had this on DVD and I found the upgrade satisfactory.

My first Criterion blu-ray was Wings of Desire:

Here's the pic I took of my haul from that time including my first BD-ROM drive. As you may see from the pic, I still wasn't wholly sold on the blu-ray thingy, which is why Thin Red Line and Seventh Seal in that pic are DVD format. Once I'd seen what blu-ray brought to the table, that error was quickly rectified.

First DVD was Notorious. DVD that hooked me on Criterion was The Complete Mr. Arkadin.

First BD was (I think) Stagecoach. BD that hooked me on blind buying Criterions was Revanche.
