Yeah...that part of the interview was a bit awkward.

You're a better man than me. Aside from story telling, IMO, film is first and foremost a visual medium and heavy EE or DNR will take me right out of the experience.

I'll bet my entire Criterion Collection that Lady Bird comes to Criterion in a few months.

I know A24 is a relatively young production company, but have any of their films been released by Criterion before? Even with the Gerwig connection, does it seem that likely?

I'm going to pick up Lady Bird whenever it comes out, though. I loved it to bits.

It will be through Lionsgate, who has a distribution deal with A24. No reason to think Criterion would suddenly grab this up.

Going to see that tomorrow at Alamo Yonkers before the 35mm screening of Suspiria. Heard nothing but rave reviews.

The trailer does make it seem like a Criterion candidate.

“Oh, Code Unknown,” Haneke said, as I died on the inside. Well, that was an out of body experience.

Ha ha, me too. I want ALL of these and while normally I can be very patient and wait for a sale and/or prices to drop, I would be too worried about a Shout Factory Vincent Price box set situation (I was fortunate to get that one). No, I won't take any chances, I will preorder the first day, box set or singles.

just took a quick inventory and noted that i accrued 142 titles from Criterion this year, counting a few Dec/Jan pre-orders. for some absurd reason, this odd (even though it's even) number bothers me... what to do....

edit: if i do count trilogies & box sets as single items rather than count their individual titles, i have 130 new items. i guess that's better.

Anyone have any strong thoughts about My Own Private Idaho?

I'm considering the possibility of making a purchase without prior viewing experience.

A dangerous consumerist endeavor to be sure.

But as Nietzsche once said: One never dives into the water to save a drowning man more eagerly than when there are others present who dare not take the risk.

Throw a couple out with the trash to make it a nice rounded 140?

My Own Private Idaho is an acquired taste. But its a taste that is well worth the journey should you choose to take it.

I didn't know what "aquired taste" means and i found this meaning:
Quote:
something that you dislike at first, but that you start to like after you have tried it a few times
In that regard, Ozu was an aquired taste for me!

Personally, I think it's one of the best movies of the 90s, Van Sant's magnum opus, and Phoenix's most towering contribution to the cinematic landscape before departing us all too prematurely.

It was just a special convergence of talent that couldn't have come together at a more perfect time. Highest recommendation from me.
