Damn. Nice deal. I can't wait to re-vitist this. It's not like I don't own it on DVD. But this will be beautiful.

The experience of seeing this in the theater when it came out was unreal. What a movie.

Umm... I'm gonna need some sources and citations on that.

I was talking psychedelics, not weed, to make it clear. IMO, the most fun films/shows to watch while on shrooms are films that are completely the opposite of what you are experiencing while tripping (i.e. films that show typical human behavior or propriety). The most entertaining things while you're tripping are things that you take for granted while in a normal state, like trees or cars or doors, etc. Weird kaleidoscopic visions, for example, that one would deem "trippy" while lucid or high on weed aren't as interesting on shrooms because you're already tapping into an alternate reality. Just my two cents.

Weed is a while different deal. Most films are hilarious when you're baked.

Definitely agree with this!

I re-watched The Winslow Boy a while back on the P.O.S. DVD. Excellent film, but this DVD was almost unwatchable. The PQ was utter $%#%, and looked even worse than a VHS tape from back in the day. This film definitely deserves more attention than it's gotten so far. Even a better mastered DVD would be better than what we've seen.

Olleana is another interesting Mamet film that deserves more attention; I wouldn't mind seeing this on a remastered DVD or Blu.

Mamet is such an underrated director. Many of his films are brilliant, including Heist, The Spanish Prisoner, House of Games, Redbelt, Phil Spector, and Spartan (among others). I like the twists & turns many of his films take, in completely unexpected directions. One of the many great things he does in his movies is take well-established actors that have been somewhat "typecast" & takes them out of their "comfort zone" and casts them in great roles that you normally couldn't see them doing well, if at all - i.e., Ed O'Neill in The Spanish Prisoner & Spartan; Steve Martin in The Spanish Prisoner; Danny DeVito in Heist, and, Tim Allen in the superb & underrated Redbelt.

Absurd human constructs that we create for no reason are by far what makes you laugh the most when you're tripping on something.
I pretty much agree too.

Try watching any episode of Twin Peaks while on psilocybin though. Now that's a trip (not that I've done that).

Also, I have yet to see a film that tries to emulate what its like being on psychedelics, however, Terry Gilliam did one fine job with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I must confess.

It may be lightweight, but one Mamet film that seems to get overlooked is State and Main. I haven't seen that many of his others but I assume the gentle (!) humour in this is not typical? I love Doc Hollywood (or Cars) style fish out of water stories... the difference being this is lots of fish out of water

Totally agree. Most of the DVDs in my collection look ok-but-not-great when upscaled by my blu-ray player, but for some reason The Winslow Boy looked really awful and blurry. Which is a shame because the movie has a really sumptuous production design, with beautiful Edwardian interiors and costumes. If Criterion doesn't release it, then maybe Twilight Time ought to, since they released American Buffalo a couple years back.

I went ahead and pre-ordered The Breakfast Club, Young Mr. Lincoln, Elevator to the Gallows, and Night of the Living Dead from Amazon just now.

With the exception of Elevator to the Gallows, which is $27.99, all of these titles have pretty low prices now that are comparable to the B&N sale. Since I'm on Amazon Prime, I'm all good if this title drops in price before then as well.

It depends on which intern is monitoring that mailbox. Some of them are quick to reply while others ignore messages.

I've gotten quick replies for replacements because I've PayPal'd them money for it upfront but that was for a time when a damaged case was my fault. You shouldn't have to pay for a booklet.

Night of the Living Dead is now $18.31 on Amazon. I believe they're price-matching Walmart.
