It was shot in 1.66:1

I guess you just had a fullscreen DVD...

The MGM DVD was open matte 1.33:1. I believe the proper AR is 1.66:1 matted.

Yeah, I like it too. When House was first announced, I really wasn't interested in buying it (shocker to the mass of people around the internet with House avatars, stickers, shirts (Beta), etc). But Criterion had to go and put it out around Halloween, and now I have been thinking about buying it because I'm in that mood.
