Fact dealt!
You realize, of course, that Meg Ryan was in Top Gun.

I specified 1990s-era Meg Ryan specifically because of this movie. Amen!

No body says you need to like every movie, or that every movie needs you to like it.

Just like what you like and ignore the rest.

Top Gun is a mostly ridiculous movie and a joke as drama. Far from a great movie. I've been happily ignoring it for over thirty years!

Someone somewhere else suggested Two Lovers by James Gray. Perhaps either that or À Nos Amours. The question is, would it be worth double dipping the latter if I already own the Gaumont blu-ray.

I saw "The Presidio" recently, which is pretty bad, but Meg Ryan is really sexy in that film. Totally opposite of her rom-com persona she adopted in the 90s. She was also in the highly underrated "Hurlyburly", which will probably never get a BD release because of the Kevin Spacey factor.

North by Northwest was mostly ridiculous and a joke as a drama too but so what. A lot of great movies are mostly ridiculous and a joke as a drama.

Meg Ryan's only "great" film was probably When Harry Met Sally (directed by Rob Reiner). That's pretty much it. Oh, and maybe Courage Under Fire (Edward Zwick).

My girlfriend was watching "You've Got Mail" on TV recently and I watched some of it with her and I was shocked to learn that Dave Chappelle is in that film as Tom Hanks' buddy. Tom Hanks and Dave Chappelle cast as buddies has to be one of the oddest pairings of all-time.

Also, Meg Ryan's wardrobe in that film is just bizarre. She's a very attractive woman and she's dressed in stuff that even conservative soccer moms would say, "Wow, that's a little too grandma-like for me."

But if the score is 0-0, that means their points match.

Michael Palin filmed an entire subplot which was cut, so the cast could've been even weirder!

I am happy to see "Flesh and Bone" mentioned when it comes to Meg Ryan, I saw it many years ago and was quite mesmerized by it, it has a special feel to it for me. (also one of Gwenyth Paltrow`s first movies). Got a Neo-Noir feel to it.

I also like Meg`s performance in "When a man loves a woman", it looks and partially feels like a "chick flick" but I find it to be a very good drama about alcohol abuse, and couple/family communication, and just like in "Flesh and Bone" Meg also shows that she could do some nice drama, and Tina Majorino and Fae Whitman does a good job as their children, also look out for parts by Ellen Burstyn and Philip S. Hoffman.

Sorry for OT, but I seldom see Meg Ryan gets a "thumbs up" for her drama work and I have always liked the two movies I mentioned they mean a lot for me personally.

The neo-noir feel was one of the things I really liked about Flesh and Bone. I also liked Gwenyth in it. And as moviebuffed mentioned, Meg was in a different kind of role for her. I'll try to watch When a Man Loves a Woman based on your comments. Just the title alone made it seem like something I wouldn't usually like, which is probably an unfair way to approach it. I also need to give Restoration another look. It's been a long time since I've seen that.

The talk about Meg not being in any great movies makes me wonder what exactly makes a movie great? There are movies that I think are great to me but I know that many people wouldn't like them at all. I think Days of Heaven, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Paris Texas are great movies but I know people who think all three are unbearably slow and boring. Maybe Rory said it best: just like what you like and ignore the rest.

I've never seen Flesh and Bone, but I've got to admit that I'm pretty intrigued about it after taking a look at the Internet Movie Database page. There were some solid neo-noir movies during the early 1990s.

Ha. I just turned on the TV, and Con Air is playing on Showtime. Chappelle is in this, too.

I have his Chappelle Show's first two seasons on DVD. Funny motherf'er! Whenever I see it being played on Comedy Central as I flip through the channels, I have to stop and watch. No matter how many times I see skits like, "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong", I just die laughing.

Innerspace, When a Man Loves a Woman, The Doors, and maybe In the Cut should all be above Courage Under Fire.

Oh. And how can we forget the better version of Wings of Desire?

Can you just picture that set to a montage of Nic Cage caresses repeating every thirty seconds on a Criterion title menu?
