They used to(don't know if they still do), but you can't just order from the store, you have to email them.

To chime in with Amazon Prime, it has been totally worth it for me and worth its admission price. Amazon Prime to get blu ray deals (Prime member exclusive deals) and 2 day shipping is just icing on the cake (it is also nice that I don't need to hit those shipping minimums, sometimes a deal would come up and I would buy some other things I didn't need to hit free shipping).

For my wife and I who both work full time, it's been a revelation with a baby. Huge time saver for buying diapers, formula, clothing etc and knowing it will be to the house in two days. Best thing is doing inventory of our needs (dog food, dog poop bags, baby diapers, formula) and making a purchase knowing it will come to us in two days instead of driving across the city in traffic to Pet Co or Target. If I happen to see a Criterion blu ray greater than 50% off MSRP during that purchasing time, all the better.

Me being the movie hog that I am, I lived and breathed Amazon Prime purely for the free 2-day shipping. I probably saved enough with that alone to justify the price. Having spent many years overseas and having to wait 7 days or more for packages, 2-day shipping (for free nonetheless) has spoiled me rotten. I haven't even touched the streaming services (because I prefer to own what I like), but it is nice to know that it's all there and available.

Now that I'm moving into a new place, Prime is going to be essential. Not only for the big movie splurge I just indulged in (for which, Prime did knock the prices down quite a bit), but also to get the things I need faster (like refrigerator filters, WiFi adapter, kitchenware, bathroom stuff). I could have probably just put in for one month, but why pay $10 a month when you could pay $8.33 per month for the whole year and enjoy the benefits the whole time (and I will anyway, since NOTLD and SOTL are both preordered and I got more in mind).

Yep, Prime works great for me personally. Any beef I have is with USPS right now--had some Jodorowsky movies on order and my delivery failed somehow, WTF?

Dersu Uzala and Ran are my #1 and #2 wants from Criterion where Kurosawa is concerned.

Amazon Prime also means being able to watch The Grand Tour.

I am sure someone on this forum has their own Criterion Closet. Come on out of the closet and post a picture if you are out there!

I have collected all the blu-rays released. But mine are mostly stored in large "Very Useful Boxes" with my favorites (around 100 or so) on a shelf that is more accessible.

Wow. I always wish that I could manage to collect all of them. You and a couple others here have. I am so jealous.

Well, Arrow did correct the teal tint of The Tree of Wooden Clogs and seems much better to my eyes.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=280072
I wouldn't stick to those approval statements as it has been proved many times.
We don't know how,and in what extent someone was involved, if he approved the final bluray etc..
The Thing I think is a proof of the same person approving 2 different color palettes for the movie, for the Shout and Arrow release.

Something else I wanted to ask:
Has anyone ever tried scanning a Criterion cover in high resolution and print it in a large size poster?
I'd really love some covers that haven't been released as posters.

Finally got around to watching "Certified Copy". That film is a f**king masterpiece. Probably one of the best of the last 10 years IMO. Juliette Binoche is amazing in it. I heartily recommend picking it up during the next flash sale for anyone who is curious about the film.

Coincidentally, Certified Copy is on the very top of my to-watch stack. So, it's the next blu-ray I'm going to view after I finish knocking out some of the movies on my DVR. The "record" light has been running almost nonstop thanks to TCM. I am working on Gaslight right now (the 1944 version with Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten and Angela Lansbury. I would love for Criterion to release this on blu-ray!); I watched Arsenic and Old Lace last night, and after Gaslight is done, I'll be watching Bell Book and Candle, Roman Holiday, and Orson Welles' Othello, which was coincidentally just released by Criterion in October.

So, yeah. I'm spending a lot of time in the dark right now.

"Gaslight" is fantastic. A Warner Archive or Criterion release would be great.

The problem is, approved or not, they are not the same colors that were present in 1985. It's sad they had to make it yellow and teal to try and look modern and new. But fairly easy to correct with color grading software, although the crushed blacks and contrast are now baked in and there's no way of fixing that, unfortunately.

Revisionist is still revisionist, despite having the DP "approve" it.

I've been tweeting both Warner and Criterion. I really don't care who releases it, though I'd prefer Criterion because of the extras. I just want it in my blu-ray collection, dang it! The more I watch Ingrid Bergman, the more I love her. Seeing her on the big screen in Casablanca a few weeks ago was like something out of a dream. How any woman could be that beautiful and that talented is beyond me. I can't get enough of her, Barbara Stanwyck or Bette Davis right now.

I'll be breaking out Christmas in Connecticut and The Bells of St. Mary's right before Christmas gets here, along with Holiday Inn, White Christmas, The Bishop's Wife, It's a Wonderful Life and George C. Scott's A Christmas Carol. The Bishop's Wife and A Christmas Carol are family traditions. No matter where I've been, I've always come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we always watch those two films.

I've been on a Cary Grant and Frank Capra kick, of late. Sigh, I need more hours in the day...

Has anybody heard anything further about L'eclisse? It's pretty much sold out everywhere. Is it now out of print? Or is Criterion preparing a blu-ray only issue?

Back on that Criterion Closet theme...

You know what would be incredibly ironic?

If someone goes into the Criterion Closet and announces that "they're coming out of the closet" at the same time. I've never seen that happen yet. Who will it be you think?

This is an argument that comes up time and again but as a studio they have to bow down to a more authoritative voice than public memory, because if not the DoP whose should they take as the final word on the film's look? Not Joe Public, to be sure. They used Michael Mann's color scheme for Thief which many said was a teal revision, their release of The Last Emperor was authoritatively not how the film was released in cinemas. Why would anyone expect Criterion to act differently in this case?
