That is how Wages of Fear has always been - it & In The Realm Of The Senses were the very first Blu-ray titles to get Criterion's new custom plastic case instead of the digipack.

For those curious which criterions are out of print, here's a list from dvdaf:

Quote:
Akira Kurosawa: Four Samurai Classics
The Bank Dick
Blood for Dracula (Uncut)
Contempt
Dead Ringers
Flesh for Frankenstein (Uncut)
Hard Boiled
The Harder They Come
How To Get Ahead in Advertising
The Killer
Notorious
Ran
Rebecca
RoboCop (103 Minute Unrated Version)
Sid & Nancy
The Silence of the Lambs
Spellbound
Straw Dogs (Uncut)
This Is Spinal Tap
Tokyo Olympiad
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Wrong Men & Notorious Women: Five Hitchcock Thrillers 1935-1946
I did not include first editions that were remastered.

Today, I picked up Chungking Express, The Last Metro and The Man Who Fell to Earth from a different B&N. I meant to get Bottle Rocket, also, but all of the stores in my area are sold out and even the website is sold out. I'm going to place an order at Amazon for Repulsion and For All Mankind, this evening, and hopefully a copy of Bottle Rocket shows up at B&N before the sale is over. If not, I'll bite the bullet and order it from Amazon for $25 to complete the collection.
I got the exact same problem I just need Bottle Rocket to complete my collection, but when I was ready to order it with the remaining criterions from bn, it was already sold out. I hope it'll be available again for such a great price.

You can always order Bottle Rocket from Deep Discount and use the code DVDTALK to save 25% off the price. Sure it's out of stock now, but at least you'll get a good price on it, $18.67 shipped no tax.

On that list, both "Amarcord" and "High And Low" are available from Criterion. They were part of the remastering.

Thank you, I'll look into it the only problem seems to be that they won't ship to Europe any longer because of many lost packages, at least that's what I read in a german forum. Btw. It definitely feels good to collect criterions from the beginning. When I first noticed this great label back in 2005, they already had too many spines, but this time around I want to have most of them, if not all blu ray spines

Well never say never - but yes, as of now Criterion does not have the rights to Contempt and there will not be a Blu-ray release.

You may want to wait and see if this will be region free. Optimum is releasing a blu-ray of Ran in September:

Thanks guys I appreciate it. My local B&N has it in stock and now this business about the UK Blu-ray version, what to do? I know patience is a virtue but at 19.99 I will pounce.....

Optimum almost always region locks their BDs, which is a shame. I've love to be able to pick up Ran, Contempt and Belle de Jour on Blu-ray (just not going to spring for a new region-free player right now).

Yeah, they will probably be region "B" locked if their past releases are any indication.

Probably not, unfortunately. As mentioned, Optimum has been known to region lock a lot of their titles.

I suppose I could search.... but for a second player, what are some affordable options for region free players?
