Age of Innocence is day 1 for me. One of my favorite Scorsese and one of my favorite films of all time. The MOC release of Passion of Joan Arc is good enough. I might double dip for Women in love as well.

The Passion of Joan of Arc for me. One of the most gripping silents imo, which says a lot.

Been so swept up with Star Wars that I completely forgot today was the 15th. Decent month, supported predominantly by "Passion.."

I'm glad to see other folks interested in King of Jazz. I saw it many years ago but it was a b&w print. It's pretty rare for these early technicolor films to still exist. They were released in both color and b&w prints but since far fewer theaters were equipped to show technicolor films the number of color prints made were fewer too. When I first saw a list of early technicolor films that were either filmed totally in color or had color sequences, I was amazed that there were so many. But it was also sad that most were either lost or existed only in b&w prints.
Anyway, Im interested in all the new announcements with the possible exception of Baal. I need to test drive that one somehow.

I don't think that the theaters would have required any special equipment to show color films. The reasons why black and white prints were produced were
1. Technical limitations in producing a requisite number of durable prints. This is the reason why Douglas Fairbanks made a B&W version of The Black Pirate. Once Technicolor developed the technology to make a single-strip color film instead of having to literally cement two different strips together, this wasn't so much of an issue.
2. Fulfilling contractual obligations to the Technicolor Company but primarily distributing a simultaneously produced B&W version for reasons of economy. Doctor X is an example.
3. 1950s television prints. Why go to the trouble of making color prints when TV was almost exclusively broadcasted in B&W? Sally and On With the Show are examples of two-color Technicolor films that only exist in B&W TV prints, but a couple of tantalizing fragments have surfaced that do give us a glimpse of what these films originally looked like.
4. Inexpensive preservation. This is the reason why the original color version of The Black Pirate survives only in B&W. The color version that we have is largely made up of alternate takes and outtakes.
The fact that we have The King of Jazz mostly complete is something of a miracle. Restorations from original two-color negatives are almost unheard of because most of them were destroyed in the late thirties when Technicolor tried to return them to the various studios (most were uninterested). Definitely looking forward to seeing this film again.

Certainly in for The Age of Innocence. There are days when I consider it to be Scorsese's masterpiece.

I think he's alluding to the fact that the film hasn't had a domestic Blu-ray release until now.

I have the steel MoC version of Joan, but I'm seriously considering picking this one up too. People throw the word "masterpiece" around all the time -- I'm unfortunately one of those people. But if the word applies to any film, it certainly applies to this one.

And good lord. I haven't seen Women in Love in like 30 years. I definitely want to pick that one up.

I just received La Promesse and Rosetta today. Should be a fun evening ... well, fun maybe isn't the right word.

Age of Innocence is under Sony Home Video. Can this be a sign of more Criterion titles from the studios?

I still cannot believe I've never seen The Age of Innocence. I'm definitely interested in that title.

Overall, a pretty solid lineup of releases for March.

The musicals from the 30s had the most flamboyant, florid poster styles. Why on earth Criterion chose the dullest art for King of Jazz?

They've released Sony titles in the past and they will continue releasing them.
