There's two more I would like that had the Criterion and Janus logos on them that I saw in 2017:

A Man There Was(a very good 1917 silent from Sjöström
The Spy in Black(a very good WW1 thriller with Conrad Veidt and an early Sebastian Shaw)

Definitely want to see upgrades to "Night on Earth" and "Stranger Than Paradise" as well as the Mamet titles. "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid", "California Split", and "After Hours" hopefully will happen eventually.

I've been binging on 70s movies lately, so I'd love to see some 70s gems join the collection. Frank Perry and Paul Mazursky are two directors I'd love to see join the collection. Any of "Play It as It Lays", "Diary of a Mad Housewife", "Last Summer", "An Unmarried Woman", "Blume in Love", and "Harry and Tonto" would be worthy additions for Criterion. Also, "Little Murders" with Elliott Gould.

Just watched Hiroshima Mon Amour for the first time in my life. Somehow, this masterpiece has eluded me until today. I feel as if I have been deprived of something so beautiful for all these years I’ve been alive. I’m stunned by it. I’m not good at reviewing movies, so I can only really say it was incredible.

I'd love to see Play It As It Lays and Last Summer get a release along with Ladybug Ladybug. Frank Perry has been treated terribly on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

I'd also love to see Harry and Tonto get a release, I know there was speculation that TT might have it.

If you were taken by its fragmented rhythm, I strongly recommend you check out Resnais other masterwork, The Last Year at Marienbad. I imagine you'd have somewhat of a similar reaction.

Definitely. Frank Perry from '62 to '75 was one of the more iconoclastic, interesting American filmmakers around. He had a lot of similarities to Altman and Arthur Penn, two of my favorite filmmakers of that era, but just has never received the same kind of accolades.

I love those two as well. Last Summer might be the bigger challenge. It was originally rated X and soon pulled and cut to an R, I believe. It had a VHS release and has showed up on TCM a few times but always in the trimmed version.

I actually have seen Marienbad years ago. I owned the OOP blu, which I stupidly sold, and really enjoyed it. Hopefully it gets rereleased at some point. Just ordered Muriel off eBay. I’m excited for that as well.

I forgot to say earlier that I hope Criterion delivers the uncut version of Ken Russell's The Devils next year.

Thank God you’re not in charge at Criterion. Your list would pretty much break me, financially for a short while.

I would love to see a Dances With Wolves release with both cuts and the original white subtitles.

Your post reminded me that I always get a bit depressed this time of year when TCM does their TCM Remembers video. Some of the folks who passed and were in Criterion Collection titles:

Emmanuelle Riva (Hiroshima Mon Amour, Kapo)
Jean Moreau (many titles)
Anne Wiazemski (Au Hasard Balthazar)
Harry Dean Stanton (Paris, Texas, Two-Lane Blacktop)
Aleksey Batalov (The Cranes are Flying)
Richard Anderson (Paths of Glory)
Michele Morgan (Port of Shadows, The Fallen Idol)
Sam Shepard (Days of Heaven)
Danielle Darrieux (The Earrings of Madame de..)
Haruo Nakajima (Gojira/Godzilla)
Yoshio Tsuchiya (The Hidden Fortress)
Mireille Darc (Weekend)
Federico Luppi (Pan's Labyrinth, Cronos, Devil's Backbone)
Alec McGowen (A Night to Remember)

I'm sure I missed some but.....another tough year. If you haven't seen it I can recommend it, just have some tissues handy. They're always well done and the music they chose each year is perfect. They always chose a notable person to end it with and this year that was Robert Osborne.

About 14-15 yrs ago I saw The 400 Blows, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Le Cercle Rouge and Winter Light over 2 days via CC dvds. Mind was blown, and basically was what led me to now having 6000 odd movies in my collection.

I miss those days. Renting Criterion dvds from the school library felt like Christmas arrived everyday.
