Bowling for Columbine just seems like an odd choice. I can't imagine there being that much demand for it, especially if it's a full MSRP title. I'm already confident that it'll be one of their weakest selling titles in 2018.

I will definitely be purchasing it, so there's going to be at least one buyer.

I completely disagree. It’s not an odd choice, since it’s an acclaimed documentary and its issues are still very timely. It’s also one of the highest grossing documentary films ever and Michael Moore is high profile (for better or worse). It will sell well since it’s a well-known film; it’ll undoubtedly sell better than the somewhat obscure titles released over the past few years, even though I think it has little replay value (but is a great film).

Yeah, I mean, it's not difficult to understand why it's being brought to the collection. It was a documentary that made its way to mainstream culture at the time, which is rather unheard of, and is, in a way, now more relevant than ever. Disagree with Moore's politics or approach to the form, he remains one of the most prominent documentarians of recent times, for better or worse.

I really have to disagree with this take here. In the doc world it’s still wildly popular and remains timely.

Not convinced the skeleton is Dead Man or Bringing Out The Dead or even Bringing Up Baby (if it were a dinosaur skeleton, you'd have me convinced).

Under The Skin? Great film, and would make for a helluva October release.

Any chance that tree could represent Aronofsky's The Fountain? I've been dreaming of a Criterion release of that one for years.

I’m gonna keep pushing for Criterion to do a release of Paris is Burning until it happens.

Speaking of The Thin Man, TCM is playing the entire series, in order, starting in about 10 minutes. Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.

The Thin Man (1934)
After the Thin Man (1936)
Another Thin Man (1939)
Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
The Thin Man Goes Home (1944)
Song of the Thin Man (1947)

I've never seen any of these, so my DVR is set to record!

Several films Criterion has released on blu-ray will be playing on TCM in the next two weeks. Listings with Eastern Time.

His Girl Friday (1940) January 1st, 12:00 PM
Charade (1963) January 1, 7:00 PM
Godzilla (1954) January 3, 9:45 AM
Panther Panchali (1955, from the Apu Trilogy), January 3rd, 10:30 PM
Eraserhead (1976) January 4th, 12:45 AM
La Jetée (1963) January 4th, 4:30 AM
In a Lonely Place (1950) January 7th, 7:00 PM
La Notte (1961) January 8th, 2:00 AM
In Cold Blood (1967) January 8th, 7:00 PM

And a few that are not Criterion releases, but films I highly recommend:

Born Yesterday (1950) January 1st, 1:45 PM. Judy Holiday's Academy Award-winning performance is an absolute delight!
Wuthering Heights (1939). January 9th, 2:30 PM. William Wyler's masterful classic from film's greatest year, starring Merle Oberon, Laurence Olivier and David Niven.
The Lion in Winter (1968) January 9th, 4:30 PM. Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn. That's all I should need to say.
Gaslight (1944). January 11th, 7:00 PM. Joseph Cotten, Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer. Bergman won her first Best Actress Academy Award. Also the Silver Screen debut of Angela Lansbury.
The Great Ziegfeld (1936). Best Picture winner starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.

Lastly, a few other Criterion films that are streaming on TCM.com for at least a couple more days. Go to http://www.tcm.com/watchtcm/movies/ and log in with your tv provider information to watch.

Cat People (1942), streaming until January 3rd
Jules and Jim (1962), streaming until January 6th
Mildred Pierce (1945), streaming until January 5th
Night of the Living Dead (1968), streaming until January 6th

Have a wonderful New Year's Eve, everybody. If you're out driving later tonight, stay safe!

Hi guys, i heard awhile back that Criterion was going to stop producing those dual editions with the Blu/Ray and DVD, that once those all sell out they were going to just release the BluRay only editions. Just checking if Criterion had a change of heart on that.

Absolutely, one of my favorite movies is Barbarella. Hanoi Jane has never looked hotter. If Criterion ever releases it, it would be day one for me. Oh yeah, and Roman Polanski is one of my favorite directors. When are we getting The Tenant Criterion?

Yeah? ...and so what? There's a huge difference between watching art created by someone whose politics I don't agree with vs. watching a film that is only about their politics.
