Dead Man would be a great digi-pack/slip cover thing; ala The New World

Criterion The Virgin Suicides

Okay, is it just me, or do I detect a subtle vaginal image on The Virgin Suicides's cover, obviously not as blatant as the Pan's Labyrinth's cover, but particularly in the light/shadowing of the lower V shape and moving upward?

Was The Virgin Suicides always in 1.66:1, or is that just for this release?

Not a bad start to the year. The Awful Truth and The Virgin Suicides are definites and The Color of Pomag...Pomegr...TCoP seems kind of interesting.

The Eclipse set might even make the Netflix disc rental list if they ever get it.

Oh yes!

Another Jarmusch title on blu-ray PLUS Sofia Coppola's Criterion debut!

What more could one ask for!

I hope so, that is The Awful Artwork.

Me too. At least offer separate formats. I could deal with the non-restorations and no extras.

Some good Criterion material on TCM tonight:

The coming soon The Age of Innocence
And the "God I wish Criterion would release!"-William Wyler's The Heiress and Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons

The last film tonight is a head-scratcher to me: King Vidor's Our Daily Bread. It used to be part of the Janus Films tv package that was on PBS stations in the '70-80s and then disappeared. I guess it fell into PD status but despite the wooden performance of Tom Keene in the lead role, it's a fascinating look at the Great Depression. The final sequence alone is worth watching the film. It's always seemed like a perfect fit for a Criterion slot.

Well, Criterion has once again given the short shrift to Harold Lloyd. If they can't be bothered to get another Lloyd film released since the last one in December of 2015, they should just relinquish the rights to give another company like Kino the opportunity to do right by Lloyd (while we're at it, relinquish the rights to Erich von Stroheim's The Wedding March - they've only had ten years to do something with the movie). Sigh. Well, at least we're getting The Awful Truth.

Kindred spirits! I would love to see them release Red Sorghum, the first Zhang Yimou film I ever saw (a gorgeous Technicolor film print!). Ju Dou would be awesome, too. The only DVD release I'm aware of was a pan-and-scan travesty, unless that changed in recent years.

Let's not forget To Live, Red Lantern, and the 2 commercial blockbusters he did: Hero & House of Flying Daggers. Discussion on how he uses colors in the latter 2 movies should be quite awesome. I feel the BluRay releases of his movies are quite lacklustre. It's like "Zhang Yimou, who?"

I want all of the newly announced titles, especially The Virgin Suicides. And I'll buy anything Cary Grant does. But the Ingrid Bergman Eclipse set blindsided me. I'm so happy I can't see straight. DVD or blu-ray, I don't care. I want that set--badly!!!

Only picking up The Virgin Suicides of the newly announced titles for certain.
Never seen it (surprisingly) but it sounds like a safe blind buy for me.
Still trying to make up my mind as to if I want to pre-order it or wait for it to drop $10ish.

Don't generally go for black & white films but Dead Man & The Awful Truth (mostly the latter) has piqued my curiosity.

Good month. Always glad to welcome more Cary Grant into the collection, more Jarmusch and Sofia Coppola's first spine (This should really please those in this thread that are on a first name basis with her).

I'm disappointed in the Ingrid Bergman eclipse. In 2018 a DVD-only release seems quaint.
