I remember a lot of people freaking out about "The Brood" as well, though I personally had no issue with that. What about "Last Year at Marienbad"? Or does the fact it's bumpy make that one good? ![]() |

![]() I don't know the film, and I just saw a clip of a woman pealing potatoes for 2,5 minutes!! Wasn't it you that was bored with Tarkovsky? |

Like watching a couple of old men travel on train tracks, it's best not to take a moment out of context in order to prove a point. Akerman and Tarkovsky are on notably different wavelengths and that reaction is entirely understandable.

Not sarcastic at all. Yes I was bored with Tarkovsky. Doesn’t mean that I would be bored with all slow moving films. Jeanne was brilliant. Stalker, to me was not. Plus, you can’t compare the two. They couldn’t be more different.

It could be because Jeanne Dielman has a rigid, methodical structure to its slowness while Stalker, and other Tarkovsky films, have a very loose formation and not clearly defined pacing.

Had some free time yesterday and was able to watch Videodrome and Repo Man. I pretty much had free reign to rent whatever movies I wanted as a kid in the '80s and I have no idea how I missed these two. I definitely missed out on the opportunity to have these films make their mark on my impressionable mind.
Anyway, I enjoyed Videodrome but Repo Man is a new favorite. Just a perfect movie. |

Just received a replacement in the mail for my bronzed Summer Hours disc. I sent it out two weeks ago today, so not bad. Interestingly, as I was putting it into its case I was struck by how thick and substantial the Summer Hours booklet was. Criterion used to really invest in those extras! Now I need to re watch the movie, too, which was very moving the first time.

I actually think a lot of criterion's cover art is pretty poor. Occasionally they come up with good covers, but I personally wish they would use more of the original theatrical poster art. Of course criterion is not the only company guilty of this and are probably not the worst offenders. Still, it would be nice if labels paid more attention to this instead of doing such a slapdash job.
