Speaking of which Kubrick & Nolan never won best film either, and Hitchcock only once. Utterly ridiculous.

There are people on this forum that would do a far better job than the completely out of touch committee that hands out the Oscars. I trust someone like The Great Owl or some of these huge film buffs on these forums to give out much better advice than the kooks out at the academy.

It’s why I never watch the Oscars, and I never pay any attention to what they did or didn’t choose. I can find better informed sources in 30 seconds on the internet than their joke of a pageant.

Exactly, I mean most of the people voting do not even have time to watch movies, much less a majority of them.

I know some of the members in the academy have admitted to not even seeing Blade Runner 2049 due to it being so long and not having the time in their day.

You can find multiple instances of Kevin Smith admitting on his podcast that he simply does not have the time to even think about watching Blade Runner 2049 and jokes about it quite frequently since it has been released. And naturally he just goes on and on about how he is gonna vote for Wonder Woman and Logan lol. It is a joke and there are many more like him that can not be bothered to sit down for three hours at a time.

The year Selma was nominated over 7 percent of the academy members admitted to not even watching the film at all, and that is just the ones that were polled and answered honestly.

Taking the Oscars completely off the table, for my money Here Comes Mr. Jordan is still the best film on that list of four.

I Married a Witch is a lot of fun but not as meaty or memorable as something like say Arsenic and Old Lace. But still, very glad I own it and I'll probably work it into many Octobers to come.

Only Angels Have Wings? I'm sure it's very good but I turned it off (amybe thirty, forty minutes in?) the first time I tried to watch it and have not yet felt compelled to give it another look.

His Girl Friday is pretty awesome. It has a lot going for it (including a great cast) but the dialogue is a particular standout. It's brilliantly written and even more brilliantly delivered. It's not just clever and witty, the pace and rhythm of the back-and-forth and overtalk are almost musical.

But Here Comes Mr. Jordan is just about perfect from top to bottom. I went into it expecting to like it but was really blown away not just by how good it is but by how consistently good it is. It's one of those rare films where I couldn't find anything to nitpick.

Speaking of Assayas, I just found out that he'll be at almost all of the films during a retrospective in Austin next month (coinciding with SXSW.) Looks like I'll have to take off work for this.

I ordinarily would have waited until the flash sale to buy both Silence of the Lambs and NOTLD. However, I couldn't pass up the $18.31 preorder prices I got for both on Amazon. There are 4 other fairly recent releases I'll grab during the flash sale, but this will be my smallest haul during one in years.

I have bought Silence Of The Lambs so many times already that I can't decide if I want to buy it yet again. I also can't help but wonder if this title will get a 4K release.

A nice flash sale might persuade me to buy it for a 4th time.

Oh wow. This is great news. I've very much liked all Assayas films I've seen, and it's fantastic to hear that a previously unavailable film -- one which is apparently very respected -- will now be able to be seen.

I really want to get the Ozu silent family comedies set as I love Tokyo Chorus and also the Silent Crime Dramas set. But both will likely have to wait a few months.

Yeah, I'll probably only get 3-4 films which two of them for certain will be the two Kurosawa films. Also if it comes down to 3 films it will likely be just Day for Night, but I will likely get Elevator to the Gallows also. Hope to have more money to work with for the B&N sale.
