http://www.hkflix.com/hardware/xq/as...qx/details.htm http://www.dvdbeaver.com/FILM/hardwa...su_bdp-899.htm It's a little pricey, as you can see. About $350. I've also heard rumors of a region-free Oppo blu-ray deck coming next year... Last edited by benricci; 07-21-2009 at 07:49 PM. |

The Oppo BDP-83, currently available can be easily modded to region free. There is a no-solder hardware option, as well as a firmware option - both have been confirmed to work, with no reported adverse side effects. Optimum's Fall slate is enough to make me SERIOUSLY consider buying one of these.

I bought myself a Region B Blu-ray player to go along with my Region A. I got it for a very reasonable price on eBay, and it was a purchase that has definitely been well worth it. I recommend it for everyone who doesn't want to pay the price of a region free player.

Now that I have it completely paid for, waiting for Repulsion's release date to come and for it to show up from Amazon is making me go crazy.

So I couldn't take it anymore. I needed my Ran fix and picked it up. Great! Movie. Greater than I remembered it to be having seen it 10 years ago. I recomend a must purchase since it is out of print.
Criterion you're killing me. How can you lose the rights to Nights of Cabiria than Ran and Contempt. I can't take the suspense and the anxiety of losing Blu titles because of rights issues. Oh The Horror!!! Please put Good Buger out on Blu now before it becomes too hard to get the rights. They say Criterion Goodbuger will have special packaging with the DVDs inside a Bun Housing |

(1) the original owners or licensees can choose to release it (2) it just stays in limbo and never gets released, or (3) another company secures the rights and releases it. |

Yeah. I never pay attention to the estimated ship date. I just got the e-mail today for my order of The Wages of Fear and In the Realm of the Senses being shipped, when the original estimated ship date was around August 10th.

i don't like thinking too much that because Criterion can release a few films from a studio that they generelly no longer get films from say MGM or WB's but they were able to get Bottle Rocket from Sony and now I noticed on the back cover of REPULSION see link for image http://www.criterionforum.org/DVD-pa...collection/597 that Repulsion contains the SONY PICTURES studio logo on the back cover.
I wonder and I can only hope... but Criterion has a great relationship with Martin Scorsese, could we finally see a cool special edition for TAXI DRIVER from Criterion so we can finally get the long OOP commentary track that was featured on the old LaserDisc release. Could this be a reason behind the loss of the Taxi Driver release date that was rumored then pulled? Don't like to get hopes up but.... maybe they could release the Passenger with Nicholson from SONY.. that is total Criterion territory. |
