Question: A few years ago Criterion's beginning of the year drawing included what looked like Samira from "The Ring." That release obviously never came to fruition. Is everything hinted at always released that year? What leads me to ask is that the Blu ray of The Ring (US Version) is out of print. Could it be that it's simply taken The Criterion Collection a couple years to actually get their release together, and that we could see the next re-issue from CC?

Instincts. It'd be a pain for anyone else to find a title in my collection, but I know just where to look.

I have my stuff pretty idiosyncratically sorted too.

AFI 100, certain directors, certain labels and digis all get their own sections. Then some genres get their own sections as do some imports and everything else (more or less) by release dates.

It works for me. And since they're mine, mine all mine...

The movies from the flash sale arrived today.

Now I have two copies of Foreign Correspondent.

It’s interesting to note that the separate release is cardboard whereas the boxset version is the normal clear case. I wish all Criterions were in the plastic case instead of the crappy paper case. I hate the damn paper.

Great haul. I have most of those films and want to get Safety Last! and work my way with other Harold Lloyd films. Also still need to get the other Chaplin films(minus The Kid). Maybe next month or the next sale.

That's weird. My copy is a clear case and I didn't get it as part of the box set.

My flash sale order arrived today despite saying delivery would be on Monday (a holiday).

The films on the left are the new additions, while the films on the right are those I already owned.

The digipak was the dual-format (BD and DVD) release. It's long been replaced by single DVD and single BD releases in keep cases.

Booklet is too generous a term; it's a leaflet. I guess it was to cut costs but it's disappointing to see them being the exception rather than the rule as an extra these days. Commentaries also seem to be getting scarcer.

Looking forward to the Criterion Blu-ray upgrades for “The Passion of Joan of Arc” (1928) and “Au Hasard Balthazar” (1966). Here are 19 other titles--from the 2012 Sight & Sound Top 250 list--that I would love to see Criterion upgrade to Zone A Blu-ray (from Region 1 DVD):
Andrei Rublev (1966)
Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980- )
Canterbury Tale, A (1944) & Listen to Britain (1942)
Cleo from 5 to 7 (1962)
Day of Wrath (1943)
Diary of a Country Priest (1951)
Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, The (1972)
Gertrud (1964)
I Know Where I’m Going (a.k.a. ‘I Know Where I’m Going!’) (1945)
Ivan the Terrible, Part I (1945)
La Strada (1954)
Lady Eve, The (1941)
Mouchette (1967)
Ordet (1955)
Spirit of the Beehive, The (1973)
Testament of Dr. Mabuse, The (1933)
Trouble in Paradise (1932)
Two or Three Things I Know About Her... (1967)

A film I've requested that seem like a natural fit for Criterion is The Rocking Horse Winner. It used to run on tv as part of the Janus Film Collection with a lot of other titles that are currently CC Blu-rays. Maybe it's a rights issue, who knows. It was even showing as a Criterion title over on Amazon Prime. I saw a delightful British comedy on TCM last night called Vacation From Marriage (UK title Perfect Strangers) with Robert Donat, Deborah Kerr, and Glynis Johns, who I always find adorable. It was most enjoyable but I would've rather seen the British cut since it runs around 10 minutes longer. I don't know if anyone will release that version since Warner Archives has the American cut as a DVD mod.

Alright knowledgeable criterion thread people, I have another "where's the bluray question?":

Hirokazu Kore-eda's After Life. I just finished After the Storm which was very good, and Still Walking is one of my favourite modern films, but does anyone know why the hold up with After Life?

I really want Berlin Alexanderplatz.

I’m tempted to preorder the Second Sight release of The movie from Amazon UK. I’m worried, though, that the eventual Criterion release will be as good or better and I will have overspent by quite a bit. On the other hand, I keep thinking about how the UK Arrow release of Dekalog and the Second Sight release of The Color of Pomegrantes beat the Criterion versions for me.

There will only be 2000 units of the Second Sight Alexanderplatz so I hope Criterion makes an announcement within the next 2 months. They did do that with The Color of Pomegranates so there is hope. Spreaking of which, The Color of Pomegranates just shipped from the UK yesterday so super happy about that.

Oh, also, waiting for Ordet and Gertrude. BFI released a “limited” (its been out for 2 years and is still in stock) Carl Dreyer box set that I keep thinking about. Hurry Criterion!

One reason to choose Second Sight's release of Berlin Alexanderplatz over any possible future Criterion release is the fact that Second Sight's release will run at the correct 25fps & any Criterion release would not.

So I watched Landline last night and I noticed they blew up the Chungking Express Criterion cover and put it in a theater, kind of a cool thing to do. I still think we're getting a rerelease for the July sale.

hell yes. we need more powell/pressburger, also an update for The Tales of Hoffmann (criterion #317 dvd) would be great. Studio canal did a great regionB bluray release 2 years ago with the 4k restoration.

On Twitter, Criterion gave Cybill Shepherd a birthday shout out with a picture of her from The Last Picture Show. I know that they're not hinting at anything, but I hope that The Last Picture Show gets a standalone Blu-ray release this year.
