What's Amazon thinking sending digi-paks in bubble-lined manila envelopes? My Blow-Up and Jules and Jim copies arrived safely despite the mediocre packaging. My Persona packaging was slightly dinged but not badly enough to necessitate a replacement. Even so...I guess they just don't care. With that said, I've needed to get plastic jewel case packaging replaced on more than one occasion.

It is nice/best to get them in person, though I have 3 stores locally (each an hour away) and only one sells movies. Last sale I went in with a top 10 list of wants, and they only had a couple towards the bottom of the list.

This is unacceptable. I swear I opened the package slowly. Should I return my copy?

Mine have always been in mint condition, as opposed to the slight marks I find in B&N. The example above is definitely a rare occurrence.

EDIT: I'm referring to Criterion, not Amazon.

New edition of Red River coming out on May 29th. Presumably just removing the DVD from the packaging. Hopefully it does still retain the novel.

^Very nice. The Long Day Closes has a beautiful spine; I love the font they chose for that.

There seems to be a difference in packaging for Prime v. Non-Prime customers. TSOTL arrived safely (a day early) in an oversized bubble mailer.

I have never had a problem with damaged articles, whether Amazon Prime or Criterion or ... now who else have I ordered from?

I've always said Amazon should offer quality boxing for shipments for like a buck more. I usually make sure to order enough at one time to prevent them being sent in crappy packaging.

Worse is when you get one that was obviously damaged by a box cutter from the shipper cutting too deeply when opening the box they were shipped in from the manufacturer. I've got a few of those in my lifetime. Which is what that screenshot looks like.

? Not sure what you mean - I never mentioned suppliers and certainly wasn't talking about Amazon.

Now, for quality packaging, you can't beat CD Japan - not only is their standard packaging superb (bubble wrapped inside a round of tissue paper inside a sturdy box), they offer various upgrades to bigger boxes, the site shows you details of each, and in the shipping email there is a link to the packaging used - with photos! - so you know what to expect. If only they all did that! (And their shipping is 1/6th the price of Amazon Japan!)

I have 3 Barnes and Nobles around me and 2 of them have a superb selection. Never have trouble finding what I want even during the sale. I guess I’m just lucky.

I just realized today that Arrow has released Fellini's Orchestra Rehearsal -- very exciting news and I can't wait to have this in hand. That one really is an overlooked quirky little gem! I would have preferred a Criterion release but am encouraged by the reviews of the Arrow thus far.

The people at Criterion are awesome!

I sent them an email telling them that one of my Blu-rays arrived with a damaged case. They replied within ten minutes apologizing and telling me that they'll be sending me a new case and cover art.

Excellent customer service!

I just finished watching Au Revoir Les Enfants for the first time. I feel so sad. As a person who had ancestors in the holocaust it hit close to home. What a beautiful film about friendship too. The ending dialogue made me emotional.

Last night my copy of Stalker arrived and I got to watch it for the first time... WOW. What an amazing work of art. I think I enjoyed it more then the Mirror but I will have to watch it a couple more times...

The picture quality on my projection system was simply amazing with wonderful depth and detail; portions of the film seemed to almost be 3d.

I am thoroughly pleased with my blind buy.

I'd be interested in your thoughts of My Life As a Dog. I love the film but it's a seldom mentioned title here.
